Airbus A330 wins IAF Tanker Tender

. .
Let's see what happens now.
MoF had shot down the very first bid, hope it doesn't happen again.
The A330 is definitely cheaper to operate as compared to the Il-78 and its specs also seem to blow the Il-78 away, plus the Airbus people have learnt their lesson, they did say that it is "best value for money".

No.

IL78 MIDAS Offered by Rusians came with D-3 engine not the PS -90
Spares suppies on Il76/78 has NOT been a problem.

One of the prime reasons for IL being cancelled was engine offered by Ilushin
Second point being IL Offers 3 Drogues Where as A330 offers 2 Drogues + 1 Boom probe.
We need Boom probes for P-8/C17 refueling.

Cost to Benefit Analysis A330 is cheaper and more useful

thanks for info

And what about the spares and support in case of conflict ??? USA will dictate us terms of engagement. I hope deal includes ToT or we might have trouble in future

Airbus is umm.. French?

And French are pretty tight with us dude.

I think you're confusing boeing and airbus.

Airbus is umm.. French?

Correction, Airbus is not French.

It is a subsidiary of EADS, a European aeronautical defense company.

Sure the final assembly and HQ is in Tolouse, but it is not a French company.

UK, Germany, France, Spain are all part of it, so too are other countries.

And Airbus A330 MRTT is made by Airbus Military, not Airbus.

While A330's maintenance will not be an issue since we already have its infrastructure, but IAF is ending up becoming another zoo if we continue with so much diversification.

First the Ils for tankers, transports and AWACS, then C-130 and C-17 for transports again and then MKIs, Tejas and Rafales for fighters again....

I was talking about the highlighted part. Thanks for specifying.

But France and Germany are majority contributors to EADS.

UK is not part of airbus or EADS anymore and although there are other countries too, the French government is the only one with a big share, so they do have quiet some influence in the company.

Certainly i support the airbus!

And the next tanker we by should be another one from them again:

Didn't get you macha!
Isn't that airbus a400? Do you expect that there will be a new tanker competition soon?
Btw,doesn't propeller engined tankers has an advantage over jet engined due to increased loiter time?your opinion?

Yup. I stand corrected. BAE sold it's 20% shares to EADS.

The point is, that we currently don't have the capability to refuel helicopters, that is only possible with pro refuellers or other helicopters. But while helicopters can only carry limited fuel, have low range and can't refuel other aircrafts, prop tankers like the KC130J, or the A400 would be important additions.
Besides, we do have to get more tankers for sure, 6 x IL 78s and 6 x A330s would be way too less for an air force like IAF with so many fighters, aircrafts that needs these capability, the size of India, or the additional aircrafts from IN that needs to be refuelled as well.
