Air Defence of Pakistan

I was not taking into account the political considerations adux. I just meant, if the air defence of Pakistan was upto me, i would chose the S-400 as well as some SPYDER systems..

BTW, i dont think that Pakistan will buy PAC-3. Very very low chance of that happening.

Pakistan is not interested in an ABM type technology. It is a very expensive proposition even for countries like the US and has only "theater" wide application which is not enough to protect your assets spread over huge territory. Pakistan's hope to deter the ABM race is to develop its own MIRV technology. While PAC-3 has dual usage in terms of BM interception and a secondary Anti-aircraft role, a cheaper, more dedicated air-defence system is better suited for Pakistan (and as such being researched currently).

In that case S-300PMU rather than S-400 along with SPYDER :D

Thats more of an Indian wish list as SPYDER is an Israeli system plus your list is pretty much a reality.

The website about western sources I have added mentions under the SPYDER section that in 2006 the system was selected by the Indian army.

As for pursuing HQ9/FT2000 I am a little skeptical about its capabilities when compared to the latest long range SAMs like PAC3 and S-300PMU as the section for the missile at sinodefence mentions these problems.

However, when considering Pakistani Anti Aircraft requirements it is the most feasable and readily available and I like a lot of the chinese systems.

I am going to go for a wish list of:

1) HQ9/FT2000
2) PL9C SAM and Type 90 (GDF)
3) LD 2000
4) Anza series

Yeah, like i said i dont know any other such systems, ie quick reaction low to medium level SAM's, so im saying SPYDER. Plus anyways, SPYDER is pretty cool, it uses Python 5! and Derby!

Why wont you rather go with PAC-3 or Arrow 2 or S-400(India doesnt have S-400)? Even though they act as anti missile shields too and are ultra long range? Though S-400 is very expensive.

I would put S-400 in all the IMPORTANT locations, like the C3I centeres of Pakistan military that just HAVE to be protected, whether from aircrafts or missiles along with the MAJOR couple of cities of Pakistan.

Then i would give the Army SPYDER systes for their defence. This is what is best, mobile protective shield with the army, defending their locations and their immediate important centres in the field.

And add SPYDER systems at other semi important locations and flight routes most probably used by IAF. SPYDER uses Python 5 and Derby, its bloody good.

Also could you give some detail about the Anza series mate.

Erm I doubt Pakistan could get its hands on any Israeli equipment due to reasons of state. For example in my Pakistani Passeport its says vaild for all countries except Israel.

As for Anza series look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anza_%28missile) article for the series of the missile and its lineage bearing in mind this site is prone to bias due to editing.

A Pakistani take on the missile would be http://www.********************/Info/wepSysIndex.html

The best person to ask would be Keysersoze as he is our regular source of information on such things with a bit more credability.

Dude, we are not considering the geo political situations here.
Thing is, if some1 put you in charge of Pakistan's air defense, what would you get and how would you use it. Bearing this in mind, now tell me what you'd put.

Ok, if I had the funds etc... I would go for:

1) S400 SAM at High Altitude
2) SLAMRAAM at Medium Altitude
3) Upgrade our RBS 70 Capability to Bolide standard
4) Anza Series for point Air Defence
5) LD 2000 AAA one for one replacement of all AAA in our inventory

Pakistan has been getting Israeli equipment since 1988. Rest I cant say for what but GOP has been dealing with them for the last 25 years.

What about SPAAG's?

.
Apparently the ANZA mk3 will have a 15km range.

FIM-92A Stinger
Max range = 5000 m
Min range = 200 m
Max alt = 3500 m
Min alt = *
Speed = 700 m/sec

Anza Mk1
Max range = 4200 m
Min range = 1200 m
Max alt = 2300 m
Min alt = 50 m
Speed = 500 m/sec

Anza Mk2
Max range = 5000 m
Min range = 500 m
Max alt = 4000 m
Min alt = 30 m
Speed = 600 m/sec

* = Reported as ground level

What about SPAAG's?

I do like some of the combined systems of guns and missiles like:

1) USMC LAV 25 air defence see
http://www.army-technology.com/projects/blazer/

2) Russian Pantsyr S1 or Tunguska see
http://www.army-technology.com/projects/pantsyr/ and
http://www.army-technology.com/projects/tunguska/

As for SPAAGs I think Pakistan should look to Italy as they have an M113 variant with four 25mm guns called SIDAM and a turret with a 76mm gun.
see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otomatic and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIDAM_25

I would like more Info on this.

According to my CNN First Gulf War guide all Iraqi systems including Russian, Chinese and French were all integrated by Thompson CSF of France. I do not know whether a transfer of codes occured but I think it would have given France sending Fighters as part of their contribution to the coalition.

Ok my understanding is that it was a two phase operation. Stealth aircraft and Tomahawks took out command and control centers, air bases and hangars. helicopters flew in and took out forward hanger positions. No radar no effective air defence. Hence all the might vision of tracer rounds in the sky.
