Iran is safe because of Russian backing. Don't for one moment think those 70s jets give Iran any power at all. Heck, they won't be able to face our Thunder even.

These 67 model fighters are still capable to play all role. All they need proper maintenance and upgrades. This is age of all guided weapons , fire and forget.

Depends what level of upgrades you mean. Like the MLU on our Vipers is pretty extensive and performed by the best in the business. Can they get an equivalent upgrade for Tomcats? Do they even exist? Highly unlikely. Facing modern BVRs and WVRs will require modern technologies. And firing modern missiles will require modern Radar and Avionics. It's like trying to transform Mehran to go head to head with Cultus.

In addition to budget, it's also about access to technology. That's what I am trying to point out. If you have access to everything, you can perform any upgrades.

Underneath they are pretty much the same. Both cars should have been replaced by Suzuki in early 2000's. They are selling crap to Pakistani people.

US is going to use these to arm twist Pakistan. They are going to make a last ditch effort. Pakistan on its part should be fully aware and a contingency plan should be in place. If we dont get the Zulus than what? Turkish it still has an American engine and Chinese did not performed as was expected.
