No problem with the statues we do have Hindus in Pakistan....The question is what is the obsession or need for it to be big? It is clearly not for god....why waste so much money which could have propelled your nation forward?
It is not my nation. I am not Indian.
But read my post again.
I actually do think there are other causes where the money might better be used.
But...
Like I said in my previous post:
In order for humans to progress, they need to push boundaries.
If humans would not think bigger, if they would reach for the stars, no progress would be made in, for this instance, architecture and construction.
They are building large statues.
Maybe they need to develop new building techniques.
Maybe they will be confronted with certain construction problems which did not exist before, because no one had tried to built such large statues. And now they will need to solve these problems.
And who knows?
Maybe one day Pakistan will build a large cricket stadium or university or mosque.
And they might be confronted with the same construction problems and then they will use the solutions to these problems.
Solutions which were earlier obtained by the builders of the statue.
So building these statues will provide a lot of knowledge about construction and architecture, which might be used by others.
Another reason is art.
What do you think about Florence?
How do you feel about the Renaissance?
Did you know that the Medici family played an important role in Florence and thereby the Renaissance?
Did you also know that they spent 6 times the income of Florence on funding art in Florence?
Do you think this would be possible nowadays? Of course not.
Yet, if they did not go through with it, we would not have the Renaissance.
Sometimes you need to spend money on art in order to build a legacy.
Many people might not understand it now, but in a number of years they will see these statues as a part of India.
A part of the cultural legacy.
Just like the Eiffeltower, tower of Pisa, Christ the Redeemer, Washington monument and many other statues dedicated to history, culture, persons throughout the whole world.
