Afghan-Pakistan Relations After Rabbani Assassination

India is a coward two-faced country. they should have nothing to do with Afghanistan since it is not its immediate neighbour.

A pathetic effort at Cherry picking to say the least....what's the psyche of the subject ?? Talibans ?? Wild Animals ??
As i said elsewhere, successive governments of the day, implement their policies for the period as they deem fit, be it supporting the Talibans, or getting involved in others matters like Sri Lanka and then paying with your life. Pakistan indeed stood up against what it saw as expansionist designs of a Communist regime, while some in our vicinity didn't even have the morals to condemn such actions. Cheap banter doesn't cost a dime, but the reality is that after leaving the mess behind, sitting several thousand miles away, even the super duper couldn't escape the 9/11, much less Pakistan which meets the challenges on daily basis.
oops.. did i touch a nerve..?? sorry...!!!

Taliban, wild animals, regimes trying to be their masters...Well, from where I see, not much of a difference in them

btw, governments may decide the duration of their policies, they can not decide on the duration of their impact. Looks like Gen Zia not only paid with his life for his decisions, but also ensured that the people of Pakistan will keep paying with theirs for decades to come..

rofl, afghanistan cant survive few years if pakistan abandons afghanistan, i think we should deal afghans in a more harsh way for good this time and stop being more sympathetic to them

i dont hate afghans, but stooge afghani government

.
who said i was ?

and who should i believe ? Pakistanis ? Or the regular comments i keep hearing from Afghans on the net along with their government ?

92% of the Afghan people didn't even know 9/11 took place, & were clueless as to why the US came into their country post 9/11.

What dirty work of India was happening from Afghanistan before 1980's ?

People seem to have very short memories.

India was not an active player throughout the 1979-1989 period of Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

The people who consider the Northern Alliance as some kind of terrorists forget that Pakistan was the one that was "at the forefront" of distributing the incoming aid to all the Afghan groups that included the Pushtuns and others including NA.

Then the Soviets went back and so did the USA and Saudis and China etc. The Afghan "Mujahideen" turned on each other now and a years long civil war started that destroyed the country even more than the Soviet period.

It was during this civil war that Pakistan supported some of the worst elements like Hikmatyar who destroyed entire cities including Kabul, to show its "support for the Pushtuns". That prolonged the civil war and got Pakistan directly involved in fanning another country's internal civil war.

Then Pakistan supported the Taliban, even sending its military officers and soldiers and the NA was routed.

India and Iran and Russia etc. got involved at a very late stage to protect the Afghan ethnic minorities from the Taliban mad Mullahs. To even insinuate that India is responsible for the Afghan mess is to betray either utter lack of knowledge or open Taqiyya. You take your pick.

There is the compelling need in some to always establish some sort of equivalence with India for every action by Pakistan. Even if needs all kinds of mental gymnastics or utter lies.

What is really interesting is the utter lack of any regard by many Paksitanis about Afghan sovereignty.

These are the same folks who make "sovereign" noise when the world's biggest cowardly terrorists is killed in their military town.

Sovereignty is a myth if you are not upto it.

Suppose that's the difference between an internet warrior and a game player.

Some confusion there as you are Contradicting your own statement.
If one tends to wash the soap before the hands then it's suffice to assume that Mrs Gandhi knew well that by attacking the Golden Temple, she would not only end up paying with her life but would ultimately assure the deaths of several thousand others.

You know what I like about the whole Pashtunistan issue, it's the cheek, the chutzpah of it all -- and the apologetic Pakistani response.

How many Pashtun in Afghanistan? And how many in Pakistan?? And Pakistani policy is apologetic, it's really curious -- For instance it amazing that Pakistanis have not offered to the Pashtun "intellectuals" of Afghanistan to be united - but then again, Pakistanis have not decided that the Afghan government is right, the Durand line is history and that Pakistan are open to new borders with Afghanistan --- borders that reflect the the present reality of influence.

Afghan President Karzai believes peace in Afghanistan only possible with negotiations with Pakistan.

..Afghan president says talks with Taliban useless
AP – 24 mins ago»....KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan President Hamid Karzai says trying to talk peace with insurgents is futile and that neighboring Pakistan — not the Taliban — needs to be the other party in the peace talks.

The president's remarks came on a video recording that his office released on Saturday.

Karzai has been pushing for years to reconcile with the Taliban.

He says that effort is no longer viable since a suicide bomber claiming to be a peace emissary from the Taliban killed former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani at his home on Sept. 20. Rabbani was leading Karzai's effort to broker peace with the Taliban.

Karzai says the only way forward is for Afghanistan to negotiate with Pakistan.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — NATO captured a senior leader of the al-Qaida- and Taliban-allied Haqqani network active inside Afghanistan, the alliance said Saturday, describing it as a "significant milestone" in disrupting the terror group's operations.

NATO said Haji Mali Khan was seized Tuesday during an operation in eastern Paktia province's Jani Khel district, which borders Pakistan. It was the most significant capture of a Haqqani leader in Afghanistan, and could dent the group's ability to operate along the porous border with Pakistan's lawless tribal areas.

Shortly after NATO's announcement, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid denied in a message to Afghan media that Khan had been arrested but provided no evidence that he was free.

NATO described Khan as an uncle of Siraj and Badruddin Haqqani, two of the son's of the network's aging leader Jalaludin Haqqani. However, in a recent report on the Haqqani's by the Institute for the Study of War, Khan appears as a brother in-law to Jalaludin Haqqani.

The Pakistan-based Haqqani network is affiliated with both the Taliban and al-Qaida and has been described as the top security threat in Afghanistan. The group has been blamed for hundreds of attacks, including a 20-hour siege of the U.S. Embassy and NATO headquarters last month.

Last week, U.S. officials accused Pakistan's spy agency of assisting the Haqqanis in attacks on Western targets in Afghanistan — the most serious allegation yet of Pakistani duplicity in the 10-year war.

The United States and other members of the international community have in the past blamed Pakistan for allowing the Taliban, and the Haqqanis in particular, to retain safe havens in the country's tribal areas along the Afghan border — particularly in North Waziristan.

"He was one of the highest ranking members of the Haqqani network and a revered elder of the Haqqani clan," NATO said of Khan, adding that he "worked directly under Siraj Haqqani, and managed bases and had oversight of operations in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Khan also moved forces from Pakistan to Afghanistan to conduct terrorist activity, NATO said. "Jalaluddin Haqqani consistently placed Mali Khan in positions of high importance."

NATO also said that Khan had in the past year established a militant camp in Paktia and "coordinated the transfer of money for insurgents operations, and facilitated the acquisition of supplies."

During the operation Tuesday, Khan surrendered without resistance and NATO forces also arrested his deputy and bodyguard, along with a number of other insurgents, the alliance said.

"The Haqqani network and its safe havens remain a top priority for Afghan and coalition forces," NATO concluded.

The NATO statement said security forces have conducted more than 500 operations so far in 2011 in an effort to disrupt the Haqqani network leadership, resulting in the deaths of 20 operatives and the capture of nearly 300 insurgent leaders and 1,300 suspected Haqqani insurgents.

I don't mean to be rude but this guy really sounds schizophrenic.

One day he blasts Pakistan, the next day he wants to talk peace.

This is not the way a statesman should behave.
