Afghan-Pakistan Relations After Rabbani Assassination

. .
No, the Afghan people will, over time. And they certainly aren't the current Karzai regime.

People on this forum say the same thing about Zardari.. Dont they.. But he is still your president .. Thats the fun of democracy.. unlike a military dictatorship, it doesnt run on the whim of a few.

Zardari was elected as the President of Pakistan by the people of Pakistan. Tell me, was Karzai elected by the Afghan people as the President of Afghanistan in 2001?

Afghans don't need to be this stupid. They should realize that US will one day leave the region and India is Miles away. With no coastline and being hostile to Pakistan will definitely not help them.....

.
Will USA listen to Karzai's regime? USA needs Pakistan on the board, and that is a fact. Afghans should better say good bye to Karzai, he's good for nothing, a futile president for Afghanistan.

.
Well Afghans of any ethnicity don't have any trust on Pakistan. That is the reality.

The only way for Pakistan to maintain influence is by keeping the pot boiling, letting Afghanistan never stabilize.

A stable Afghanistan will not be a pliant Afghanistan, no strategic depth, no safe Western border, the claims on the tribal areas, no aid.

Of course there has been a price to pay. Whether it has been enough for forcing a course change is still an open question.

.
Its not Afghanistan that has suspended talks but merely a figurehead whose authority does not extend beyond the palatial palace.

In Afghanistan, Pakistan is a very natural player, no one can do a thing about it, let US try, again, though. No qualms.

.
I dont know what some of you indians are on to recognise karzi as a rep of afghanis. You cant be that incredibly dim surely.

. . .
What a joke.. Pakistanis will decide who Afghan representatives are .. ?
Well their punjabis vote for some representatives in their assembly who are supposedly representing kashmir. So i am sure that inclination is clear. May be they can also have a vote for the kabul seat.

.
Whatever would make you say that?

OT: Even though there could be a situation that Pakistan will again be involved in the discussion but by these frequent misadventures via Taliban, Pakistan is just increasing its own redudancy in the future shape of the Afghan landscape. Whatever the army may think but with every betrayal of the Afghans, the tolerance towards the Pakistani Army just reduces.

Do you honestly believe Karzai and his ANA can shape the future in Afghanistan? When they so desperately seek peace talks with Afghan Taliban and when the U.S. itself is so desperate to come into contact with Afghan Taliban.

Pakistan is smart. Its on the winning side. What Karzai says means nothing. The men with the real power in Afghanistan is the Afghan Taliban, everyone knows that. Karzai will most likely seek asylum somewhere in the west when U.S. leaves the region.

Pakistan needs to take the back seat, relax & let 'nature take its course' in Afghanistan (not get involved). The stage has been set in Afghanistan for the US/NATO Forces, perceived by the Afghan people as invaders & occupiers, to count their losses, & cut & run. This has all been evident for quite a few months now. The US will be looking to get Pakistan involved, to get it in a tussle with Afghanistan, to take some of the spotlight off them in Afghanistan, but I doubt it will work now.

.
Well the whole argument here is broken down into:

Pakistani viewpoint:- NATO wants to put up a pro-Indian government in Kabul

Indian viewpoint:- We dont want a fanatic Government in Afghanistan

Afghan viewpoint:- All we need is a pro-Afghan government. Is it too much for us to ask?

Everyone seem to be fighting in Afghanistan for their own gains...all I feel is pity for the Afghani people. Be it Pashtun or NA or Taliban...when will these guys realize they are fighting someone else's war?

India is hardly innocent in all this.

The problem is that the Afghans have allowed themselves to be India's pawn in the past. As such, Pakistan needs to make sure Afghan territory is not used to instigate anti-Pakistan subversive activities. If Afghans can form a government that focusses on Afghan development instead of doing India's dirty work, it will be best for the region.
