Truth is, USA mostly has been the trendsetter in almost every matter in the world.

Yes,but if you look at technology developments. It was industrial revolution in europe & world wars that brought a rapid advancement in S&T. Then cold war ushered space age again due to rivarly. Most of the ppl in US are not from mars but from Europe. We need more competition which comes from equals. US being monopoly simply sucks in good talent around the world or destroys that which is present in other parts of the world. Middle east or European countries would compete with each other more often than looking towards US as savior.
