A Tribute To ACM Mujahid Anwar Khan

My bet will be for uncle Javad Saeed..... He along with Haseeb Paracha have been my ideals since early 90s. For me, either of them would be equal.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Day Parade will see new Chief of Air Staff (CAS) leading the fly past on March 23 as the incumbent will retire on March 18 on completion of three years tenure.

Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan will hand over command of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to his successor at change of command ceremony to be held at the Air Headquarters here on March 19. Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan spent an eventful tenure which also saw Operation Swift Retort on February 27, 2019 when PAF fighter jets conducted air strikes at six multiple location in Indian Occupied Kashmir while remaining within the Pakistan’s air space.
The PAF jet fighters also shot down two Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft when they entered Pakistan air space chasing JF-17 Thunders. The Operation Swift Retort was conducted in retaliation of IAF aircraft’s misadventure while violating Pakistan’s air space, a day earlier. The federal government with approval of the prime minister is likely to make announcement of appointment of the new air chief.
The new PAF chief would be chosen from amongst Air Marshal Syed Noman Ali, Chairman Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC); Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar, Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Administration; Air Marshal Javad Saeed, Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Air Defence) and Air Marshal Muhammad Haseeb Paracha, Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Support). Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan has starting paying farewell calls starting from Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi last week.

I remember 2002... That was when our modern multi-role force was 32-odd F-16s without BVR... Today, we have 200-odd multi-role fighters -- all with BVR -- and dozens of precision stand-off range strike-capable Mirages. What a change.

Up, no AEW or tankers back then either, no armed UAVs, no medium range SAM. 90s was a "lost decade" that we made up for quickly in 2000-2010

I personally think 2022-2032 will see another massive leap in PAF capabilities

IMO the JF-17 is the reason why 2010-2020 didn't end up being a 'lost decade.' Now, even an otherwise uneventful decade, there is something actually in the works in some shape or form. E.g., dev work for Project AZM in the 2020s that could pay-off in 2030s, but still have the option to add AESA-equipped JF-17s throughout.

Yes, PAF has a history of introducing new gen aircraft and capabilities in South Asia (Starfighter, F-16, PGMs) so in addition to AESA JF-17 and AZM I would really not be surprised if we have something else in store. Last CNS revealed a lot in his leaving speech on future procurement, unsure if ACM will do it too, but would be great to get an insight into the following areas where we need more modernisation

C-130 replacement
Long range SAM
New JF-17 squadrons
New medium weight fighter (if any on the table)
F-16V upgrade possiblity

But other than that PAF seems to be in very good shape

F-16s all still fairly modern
Every year a F-7/Mirage unit requips with JF-17
Modern medium range SPADA SAM
Modern medium and large UAVs
Modern AEW
Modernised Falcon 20
Modern ground radars
ACMI range
CCS modernised with dedicated F-16 and JF-17 units
Modern SAR helicopters
RAAD missile
Modern US/Pak PGMs
modern refullers

All in all not bad shape all of the above can easily serve another 20 years and than AZM should take care pf much.

Essentially I feel the main challenge will be IAF Rafaele and increasing obsolesence of F-16 fleet without AESA. This is I think the main challenge for PAF for next 10 -15 years till we get AZM online in numbers

Aren't we building our AD system and FD2000 is to be procured under that system ? Project Vision is name of the project if I am not wrong

If we are supposed to expect one with only 2 years & 3 months tenure, either Haseeb Paracha Sahib or Javad Saeed Sahib, are best contenders. However, I think the bet will go for someone with due retirement in 2023. No? There will be a surprise of Amir Masood (DCAS-T).

The new chief will get automatically 3 years tenure after his appointment.
