I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that we don't have the option of taking over or using airbases nearby enough to hit those Xinjiang bases with our own aircraft. Because that's likely how these battles play out.

So we could send in our submarines first, take out your assets in the straits, and then send in our aircraft carriers as you say we must. This assuming you hit all Taiwanese airbases successfully in a surprise attack.

Like I said. China can bomb Taiwan. Taiwan can't bomb China. The Xinjiang air bases are too far to bomb from Taiwan. Only maybe US strategic bombers have the range to hit them from Taiwan. Unless the Xinjiang airbases can be taken out, Taiwan would not survive waves and waves of bomber attacks launched from Xinjiang airbases.

By launching bomber attacks from Xinjiang. Kashgar is 4,200+ km from Xiamen. They can fly from Kashgar to Xiamen and launch their cruise missiles at Taiwan air bases when they are over Xiamen.

Well then it's up to our politicians to decide what to do here. One could foster Taiwanese independence by upgrading their air defenses, or they could get angry enough for a regional war if and when China ever embarks on such a takeover attempt, or they could let China takeover Taiwan by diplomacy or force.

It's not for us to decide what the politicians do, of course.
But if it were up to me, i'd ask the Chinese to come up with some sort of detailed public statement on what a takeover by diplomacy would look like.

Chinese law is very clear. There cannot be two Chinas. If Taiwan declares secession, then Chinese supreme court rules that as treason and order would be given to hang the Taiwanese president ala Saddam.

Taiwan needs aerial refueling tankers and air launched cruise missiles to be able to hit Urumqi airbase. If they can't, they can't survive. Once their power stations and water filtration plants are taken out, they have to surrender within a year. You can't last a year without electricity and clean water. Disease would get you.
