The US would sooner see TSMC fabs in Taiwan burn than let China have them

Exactly. Even if TSMC is captured by China, China can't do anything with it without continuous supply. It's ridiculous people insinuating that China wants Taiwan because of TSMC, China wanted Taiwan long before TSMC was a thing.
But now Taiwan is a 'thing', a very valuable 'thing'. Probably more valuable than what China has.


TSMC will see the baseline 3nm process technology (N3B) dominate 90% of its N3 family capacity in 2023, and nearly 90% of the N3B capacity reportedly has been booked by Apple for new iPhones, MacBooks, and iPads for the year.​

Other countries who depends on Taiwan for their semicon survival will see that valuable 'thing' as well.
