A question to my fellow Bangladeshis

Say Syloti and Urdu spoken side by side. It's more likely you would comprehend more Urdu than Syloti although you are not an Urdu speaker.

Once again validate the fact Urdu was correct language for East Pakistan but that is another topic to discuss.

Urdu is easier than Sylheti for me. And Hindi is easier than Urdu.

Because we dont come to much interaction with Sylheti dialect. As I see @Turbo posting more and more in Sylheti. Its getting easier for me. Within 30 days I may be fluent in Sylheti.

Negative attitude towards Sylheti is not even a fraction of what have to endure by the people of Noakhali district. In entire Bangladesh, they are known as cunning, deceitful, selfish, greedy and what not.So in other district they try to hide thier Noakhali origin and are ashaimed.
no idea about that, I knew very little about geography of bd(apart from capital) when that comment was made about sylhotis, I had to look it up in map.

How idiotic that people are trying to turn this incident into an anti-Sylheti one. This sort of thing hardly ever happens in Sylhet, which is why it is such big news.

Also the guys were caught by LOCALS when they tried to hide the body - funny how people miss that!

P.s. @hinduguy no-one can look down on Sylhetis.

Yes we are slightly apart from the rest of BD, we have an independent economy based on agriculture, tea, gas, remittances and tourism. We are also quite conservative and like to keep to our own, which can make others resentful sometimes - but sorry, that is their problem not ours.
I would not know about general sentiments in bd just by talking to few people in UK. It was one person's comment which can be either a general sentiment or personal view based on his bad experience.

No sir,there is.
I think you missed the point.
And about letting them work,I meant to say,we don't discriminate outsiders.(Not every egg is gonna be fine in a basket) only god knows what would've happened if people here started migrating to the other parts like they do.without even bothering them they are abusing wholesale.

I agree with that my identity should be Bangladeshi first, not Sylheti.that's what I am trying to say.
Some of the comments are,Sylheti people are januar, inhumane, worst people of the planet,I know they are like this and all sort of negative stuff.(obviously you don't want me write the way they wrote).

BTW,I live in sylhet, not in the UK so I know what I am talking about.

Apologies Sidr I misunderstood.

As you live in BD you understand the ebb and flow of BD society and I can add little to it.

I suspect as the perpetrators were sylheti and speaking in shyleti ppl have commented homing in on their syhletiness. It would have been the same if the perpetrator were demonstrably identifiable as from some other district. I would not take it too heart..... It is not a sign of some underlying anomisity towards syhleties, it is simply human nature to latch onto the lowest common denominator to understand something defies understanding. It is no different to say when people say Muslims are terrorist without seeking to understand why/how some Muslims are driven to commit violence.

More news are coming out which states the reason for the beating was that the perpetrators were pedophiles and were seeking to force the little kid to comply to their sexual demands. If true you will get people commenting that all syhleties are pedophiles ..... This demonstrates the ignorance of the posters rather than it being a commentary on syhleties.

Sylhet or elsewhere. It doesn't matter. Low life scumbags has committed crime that has shaken Allahar Arsh. They must be punish on day light in public such a way that low life thug like them think thousand time before committed such heinous crime. Bd authority must punish these perpetrators to full extent otherwise no one can save this nation from wrath of Allah.

A non sylheti would find it very hard to comprehend 'Khasa' sylheti, especially gramor sylheti, I couldn't imagine a dhakaya understanding that well.

Though I didn't fully understand exactly what you are talking about, but India is a tolerant country and we respect diversity, but still we are more united than many other countries, just check the Indians on pdf for example! :)

India a tolerant country and respects Diversity??

Although cosmopolitan on its face - Mumbai is the most racist place on the planet. In general the endemic racism in India comes from the caste-ism germane to Hinduism itself.

Raj and his 'Navnirman Sena brigade' won't even allow special puja (native to UP and Bihar) to be performed in Mumbai area. Further - he is accusing non-Maharashtrian migrants of swamping industrialized Maharashtra in search of jobs. Jeez Hindus won't even be tolerated - much less Muslims....racist pigs.

And look at this,

This is a corrected version of the bullshit doctored version your Oriya friend SRP posted. See where India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are. India is the most racist of the bunch at 40% and up.

A fascinating map of the world’s most and least racially tolerant countries

When two Swedish economists set out to examine whether economic freedom made people any more or less racist, they knew how they would gauge economic freedom, but they needed to find a way to measure a country's level of racial tolerance. So they turned to something called the World Values Survey, which has been measuring global attitudes and opinions for decades.

Among the dozens of questions that World Values asks, the Swedish economists found one that, they believe, could be a pretty good indicator of tolerance for other races. The survey asked respondents in more than 80 different countries to identify kinds of people they would not want as neighbors. Some respondents, picking from a list, chose "people of a different race." The more frequently that people in a given country say they don't want neighbors from other races, the economists reasoned, the less racially tolerant you could call that society. (The study concluded that economic freedom had no correlation with racial tolerance, but it does appear to correlate with tolerance toward homosexuals.)

Unfortunately, the Swedish economists did not include all of the World Values Survey data in their final research paper. So I went back to the source, compiled the original data and mapped it out on the infographic above. In the bluer countries, fewer people said they would not want neighbors of a different race; in red countries, more people did.

If we treat this data as indicative of racial tolerance, then we might conclude that people in the bluer countries are the least likely to express racist attitudes, while the people in red countries are the most likely.

Above racialist map is interesting. Do you know that foreigners feel more welcomed in Indonesia compared to Malaysia? But it shown that Indonesia is less tolerant than Malaysia.

Happy to show you the Sylhoty dialects Bangladeshi expatriates from Saudi caught one killer in Saudi. Look all saudi and our peoples anger. And, how humorous to see in a moment the killer begs for mercy and people reminded him he has no heart.

Many thanks to the SYlhoty Bangladeshi expatriates for helping us arresting this guy. My Salute.

I agree, am very proud of Bangladeshs achievement...

Can I just say we are all Bangladeshis irrespective of which region we are from. Country already has a lot of traitors, the man who committed this heinous crime does not represent Bangladeshi people and definitely not our deen!

100 Bangladeshi NYPD officers are making contribution for victim Rajons Father, they are gonna buy him a taxi cab.

Happy to share this fb post:

Well, understanding Sylheti is easy. But, fluently talking Sylheti is difficult.

Bangali sara deshe choriye ache, ebong tara successful, amio Delhi te thekechi....na, amader keu bhengay na. On the other hand, Bangladeshis first asked for East Pakistan because they couldn't live with Hindus, then they asked for Bangladesh because they couldn't live with Punjabis. And now they have their exclusive Bangladesh, but still they are facing issues in living with each other even in such a small country! :P

And those so called studies by western world means nothing. Check how America has been shown as a least racist country even after their acute racism with skin colour. Most western countries have this problem, but just look at their scores in that chart. It's all garbage.

Bangladeshi can live with Hindus but not under Hindus. The story still valid whether in E. Pakistan or in Bangladesh.

Nobody is above or under anyone in a democracy!
