A homecoming gone so horribly wrong

indus traty was signed in 60s. it was not signed at the time of independence. yes u close the canals at the time of independance. and what about junagadh & Manavadar which were the first state who joined Pakistan but u occupied them to date.

Does it matter when it was signed? It has remained signed and implemented since then.

As I said, Indian leaders didn't even want Pakistan to exist at the time of Independence, let alone sign water treaties with it.

Can't we all just grow up and stop squabbling over history.

Junagadh? Manavadar? Sheesh. So it became part of India. Big deal. Manavadar is roughly 500kms square. Wow...ain't that a lot of land to fight over for 60 years!!!

all ur politicians r tring to break Pakistan. now a days what ur agencies r doing in Pakistan. can u tell me what is the need of Indian high commissions in many cities along side of afghan Pakistan Border.

Our politicians are too busy making money to worry about Pakistan.

Dude I have no idea. Perhaps you yourself should ask the people at one of those high commissions you seem to know so much about. I have never seen or read anything about them in any news article.

ferozpur headworks and madho pur headworks on river Ravi and River satluj were located in indian side but the canal system were located in pakistan. on april 1948 india cutoff water in these canals with out any prior information.

1048 buddy. April. India wasn't even a republic yet. Indian leaders were still deciding what regions belong to India and which don't.

With the amount of massacring that had happened, I will be shocked to hear if treaties were being signed at the time.

it is not a matter of piece of land. it is a matter of law , principles and Agreement which r violated by ur govt many times.

Yeah, principles and agreements were violated by both countries on a number of occasions. With the amount of distrust and resentment on both sides, what do you expect?

I"m saying that its time to move past all that, or else the future is not to bright for the subcontinent.

very informative :D

My mistake. I meanIndia wasn't a republic. She hadn't even defined her boundaries yet. What happened then was 60 years ago. It has got little to do with how we should define the future.

I have nothing personnel against the normal average person living in india trying to make a living.

The problem is with your government!

If you really desire peace then go and tell your government to hold a vote under the UN in kashmir, pakistan will do the same and let the people of kashmir decide what they want.

That is all the proof pakistan needs from india to show that it wants peaceful relations.

Agnostic,

This is the exact type stuff and nonsense that I alluded to that one observes whenever anyone discusses the UN resolution and how the whole issue has been 'pretzeled'!

:yahoo:

Good point. India has refused to let the Kashmiri people decide, knowing they would vote to get away from India. So much for India being the world's largest democracy. :enjoy:

I have no clue whether or not indian agencies are involved in Pakistan. If they are, then its a very big mistake on their part.
If Pakistan loses this war, it will be India's turn to face the jihadi music.

Similarly, Pakistani involvement in destabilizing India since independence is not good for anyone.

Indian politicians did not expect Pakistan to survive.
In fact, Indian policitians didn't even want Pakistan to exist.
But it did.
Now its 60 years down the line.
Don't echo statements made 60 years back. Stop living in history.

I believe the point was that the actions by GoI, right after Partition, sowed the seeds of mistrust between the two nations, and that if anything, it was the GoI that was intent upon "destabilizing Pakistan since independence", as you yourself allude to by pointing out that the leadership of India did not believe Pakistan would survive.

I am sure you also remember the "fast" that Gandhi had to go on in order to get the GoI to release Pakistan's share of the funds it was entitled to.

The breaking up of Pakistan is being sold as an achievement by Indian politicians. Isn't it obvious that everyone will scramble to take the credit?

That doesn't quite jive with your contention that the good Doctor is all gungho for peace. He is a politician like the rest, surely he too desires his share in the limelight.

Lets not forget the statements by the BJP leadership either.

Salim,

I have expressed to you that the I support the principle of self determination, and I imagine you do too since you are part of, and support, a "secular democracy". And while the more extreme expression of this right is not practical in all instances, I would still support it with respect to the peculiar circumstances that surround the disputed territory of Kashmir.

If you think about it, it is perhaps the only argument that cannot be shot down on moral grounds by the people of either nation, were their governments to present a solution based on it.

What would the people of India say, were their government to come to them and state, "we have decided that this dispute with Pakistan must be settled once and for all, and we have decided to let the people determine their destiny, for it is a principle that we have adhere to, and because we have full confidence that seeing the "freedom and democratic values practiced in this country", they will have no qualms about staying with India!"?

That there are certain complications, that would prevent immediate exercise of this right, is not being questioned - but the complications can be addressed, so long as both parties agree to at least start moving in that direction.

Good point.

Please Salim,

If Pakistani Intelligence and police statements and analysis of Indian involvement in the BLA and FATA does not "meet your standards of objectivity", lets not resort to making points with garbage contaminated by "Indian Intelligence sources".
