Actually, it's better for engineers to complete MBA and establish their own business. I always support this idea.. In fact all the other professionals should follow this route. It really helps the economy.

47% are unemployable for ANY JOB? Are they crippled? Can't they at least work as chai wallahs or dabbawallahs?

As a matter of fact there are instances where even PhDs are forced to go for jobs likes peons and constables.

It's a common trend in India.. Very few stick to technical line after the end of graduation. Those who seek MBA either settle to abroad or open own business or company in India like myself..

Do not compare india with hellholes regions it's an insult to india

Hellholes of the region*

There wasn't any comparison in the article.. I don't know why you guys always take it negative.

The article talks about the syllabus of engineering qualifications in certain private institutes. Although it's unbelievable because the degrees have to be approved by Engineering council, right?

Anyway, article might be wrong, but believe me, every country has some private institutions whose objective is to make money. I don't know how big it's a problem in India.

You are right. My cousin completed an engineering degree from one of the top unis in Pakistan, and I suggested him to continue studies and complete MBA. But he joined a multinational.

But yes, engineers should do MBA. I don't know why, but I feel engineers are better businessmen..

Everybody prefers govt job in India whatever it be. People like to be settled here with a healthy salary & assurance although having highly paid Pvt jobs.. It's less to do with unemployment.

Recently Railway non technical got 93 Lakh applicants. People from all section had applied for this whether with job or jobless..

How much of your engineering knowledge does one use in the industry unless he is in design ?
One learns on the job through ones interest and some internal trainings.
Most graduates . Non IT ie join either production, quality, maintenance or projects .
The only requirement from a GET is his ability to absorb about the process or equipment as fast as possible.
He should have good analytical skills and gradually increase his confidence in problem solving.
India does need to develop a common standard for engg graduates and not leave it to the individual universities.

In India the doctors are also getting highly paid if they complete super speciality especially cardiology and do not need to go outside.

Just Hyderabad city alone and according to Cushman & Wakefield reported 37-40 million sq ft office space to come up in next 4 years and mostly will be occupied by IT professionals and so many upcoming opportunities for engineering graduates in coming years.

Yes 37-40 Million sq feet in one city alone !

Two lucky men who have escaped India. They are absolutely the best India can offer. If only the rest of the Indian population is nearly as bright, but they are not; in fact, they are far from being bright.
I'm not claiming that entire Indian population is bright. I don't wanna make a list of the successful Indian men. To point out something, the best Engineers in India, works in Mahindra, TATA and Jag Landrover, ISRO, Renault, you name it I'll point at least one.

There are many employed in non-technical fields and that doesn't count. Including banks, Goldman Sachs.
The source is not credible, they just extrapolate the pass percentage of Engineers. Which is around 35%. then came up with the data.

These two are In 20%.. Articles talks about 80%.
But the unemployment rate is 5%. And the Engineers don't just become some engineers they also become bankers, Industrialists, Businessmen, turn to agriculture. You know what!?!? fu*k that statistics . In my collage around 60% were placed in Technical fields and others turned to different professions but they are all earning fortune.

Everything said in this post is true...If not 80% atleast 50 % of new engineers are unemployed ...

many of my friends after 4 years of graduation are still unemployed ... most are Mechanical Engineers and electrical Engineers...

Government should look into this or the whole Engineering thing is a catastrophe in waiting ... We produce the highest number of Engineering Graduates in the world even with out including the Indian educated in foreign university ...We need manufacturing sector to takeoff .... if not now then we are doomed ...

Indian members the situation is worse then what you are thinking ... Commerce graduate are taking average package of 25,000 INR / Month while Engineering student after all their hardwork are fetching about 12,000 / Month and some even less ... Engineers are so cheaply available that most companies heir engineering graduates as Technicians and supervisors ... Thats when most collages are not functioning in full capacity ...
