What's new

7hours & 310km/h, last sunday i(cnleio) just 'flying' half of China by CRH train

both HSR and airline are boosting right now
With developing economy, more people are travelling around, with more demand of transportation.
HSR only make short distance flight hard to survive, like less than one hour flight.
Long distance flight and HSR are all boosting.
China used to have shortage of electricity .
But now we have very good supply and low cost of electricity. So we don`t worry about that.
Electricity is pretty cheap in the operation cost.
Actually the biggest operation cost will be labor and bank loan interests.

We are happy to see Chinese people has better means of transport , especially to go home for New Year holiday.
I guess with development of HSR, airliners must compete hard to survice, and offer more reasonable price.

Electricity is a clean energy, it's not the problem, but huge electricity consumption by HSR is problem.
Cost of HSR is not only the building cost but, sadly the operating cost ( electricity as you find more )

Hi Landlord and rich man!

Yes, ultimately it is the market that dictates all, travelers decide, not builders/financers.

People can choose from flying, HSR or driving, the more options the better for travelers to fit their ever changing needs. In my case, I use HSR frequently, sometimes I drive, sometimes I fly, whatever I feel convenient.

Economically speaking, take my usual Shanghai-Jinan ground distance 915km as example, the HSR passage is 50% cheaper than flying, 80% cheaper than driving. I invested on an apartment near KunShan station (昆山站) along the HSR, return on asset 35% over 2 years, less financing costs return on investment is 103%.

For builders/financers, crunch your numbers, as long as it gives good ROI, do it, otherwise forget it. Just bear in mind, in mega projects like HSR, economic benefits may come in form of (1) direct revenue in passenger and freights (2) land price/tax increase.

Bro, u forget the transportation during China Spring Festival ... only train can carry billions of Chinese passengers back to their hometowns in that 4x days ... the airlines can't make it.

So developing railway system or CRH train, it's a reasonable transportation system in this 1.3billion ppl country.

Yes. In macroeconomics, to me, that huge investment is not effective.
But herein we discussed on the personal aspect. Remember pls

Chinese can't use American airline system as daily basis ( because China airline system is bad), they must choose among means of transports in China.
No matter what's an ineffective investment. But the time and fare each offer.

So if airliner worse than HSR they should choose HSR, we choose HSR.

You are correct BoQ77, we purposely make our domestic airline bad. Force most to take HSR, 90% of China HSR are domestic made and Chinese owned. This will help our economy without outflowing too much.

CCP purposely restrict the air route in China despite China being a big countries. It will have a big change in 2016-2017 once more domestic plane enter service starting with ARJ-21. The money will go back to boast Chinese themselves.

High level or not is meaningless to me.
To me: cheaper and faster or faster with same fare is better.

For example, HSR min fare from Shanghai - Beijing is 553 yuan ( hard seater) = 80 USD for 1300km in about 5 hours.
It's clear not cheaper and faster than a flight from Hanoi to Saigon at 40 USD ( by Jetstar Pacific ) or at 70 USD ( by Vietnam Airline - everybody know that's most expensive airliner in Vietnam ) for 1,300km ( by air ) in about 2 hours.
So if the air ticket for Shanghai - Beijing is about the same ( 553 ) you should choose airway over HSR. You save 3 hours.
Or if you feel comfortable with HSR in China ( cheaper than airline ), you would be more comfortable with airliner in Vietnam ( cheaper than HSR and faster ) during your trip in Vietnam

It's just for reference.

Could anyone tell me how much for a cheapest air ticket from Shanghai to Beijing? is it higher than HSR fare ?

To me, if air ticket in China much higher than HSR or delay too much, I would be happy to travel by HSR during my trip in China.

@sweetgrape : what we discussing here is which is the better means of transport in each country, and found the difference between each : speed, duration, fare ...
Do you know the good means of transport in some regions in Southern of Vietnam ?

Saigon - Vung Tau : 95 km, 1h 15m :

If its from Dadang to ho chi minh city, do you think air travel is better or HSR if available? Actually, I think HSR is in fact more critical for vietnam. Vietnam is not that big. From one end to another end is less than 1500km. Consider airplane check in and transfer from remote airport to city also needs time. If travelling from mid point of vietnam to another end. HSR is the best.

Hi Landlord and rich man!

Fine thanks, the opportunities were just too good at the time window: just need to short USD or its pegged currency like HKD, long RMB assets especially HSR concept, the pay back is good.

You scored, @Beast !!!

From Danang to HCMC, airliner must compete harder with possibly HSR, If the train ticket about the same or lower than air ticket

935km by railway ( about 3h30min by HSR ).
1h20min by airway , air ticket about 25USD one way.

FYI, Vietnam airport is not too far from city center, for example Tan Son Nhat in HCMC, Da Nang airport is 3km far away from city center
in Hanoi , it takes 20 min to get into city center from airport.

Below is a recommend tour ( all suggest flying )

Wow !!! This issue must be resolved by re-distribute the work force users into West.
The systems work well for that crowd at the end of year are the most ineffective systems in normal days.

Is this East ZhenZhou station ? Last sunday i just took CRH train in this station.

Efficiency is wealth.HSR is the best choice for china such a huge country.price is not a big problem for business like cnleio did.

What's the most busiest route of HSR in China? can I know?
