I am curious, only a handful of Mirages have the Checkered Markings. Is it because those particular Aircrafts had kills and/or were part of a major Operations (Pathankot)?

1965 War?

There were no Mirages in PAF during the 1965 war.
As for applying the chequered pattern on an aircraft, it was Peter Steinemann who pointed this out in one of his articles on the PAF,

^6 Sqn also has yellow and black.

And there is no such thing as *OC's aircraft* so there is no question in his aircraft being painted differently.

All aircraft are babies of OC and makes sure he rides in each one of them to make sure engg is doing their job (typical gdp vs engg culture)
It is very unfortunate that to this very day the pilots have a glamour edge over the ones who own and maintain the aircraft. When engineers start becoming pilots one day then the culture will change. That's how the West had their mentality changed over the years....

Indeed. And honestly speaking it is disturbing.

I had a frank discussion with someone from IAF's flying branch and they have a more acute problem. When pilots (usually from upper casts) insult the ground crew (usually from lower casts) guess what happens? They sabotage the aircraft.

And here is your answer to frequent IAF crashes. Atleast this is how they put it.

The British news paper The Sun, once carried out an article in this regards and interviewed some ground crew, who claimed that due to behaviour of RAF pilots, some crew like to ''do'' their aircraft in....furthermore when one of these ''arrogant'' pilot crashed his Phantom into North Sea, there was a huge cheer among the associated ground crew.

Very much possible.

In PAF, I've seen couple of OC Engg's pressurizing young pilots to admit pilot error after aircraft loss or damagem when the fault used to lie with engineers. Especially in BFT and FCU level where jets are involved. The blame game is a sad reality of any large functioning organisation. No matter how professional it is.

The air skirmishes that followed led to the downing of at least two Indian jets, and the capture of one Indian fighter pilot by Pakistan. It was good optics for Pakistan, leading some international observers to conclude that it had come out on top in the Balakot conflict.
