I believe there is an argument to be made for reservations but it should not be across the board caste based reservations.
You need some kind of point system, you get points for your exam results, your caste (sc and st gets more points), your economic background ( poor gets more points than middle class - you will need to submit your tax returns - or prove your lack of income - this can encourage people to pay tax ) , maybe even for gender ( girls get more points - ok this could be controversial) .
When you add up all the " social" points then add that to your exam results and use that to get into university or jobs. This way the " creamy" rich layer of low caste will be at the same or lower level as poorer sections of high caste. That seems fair enough.
This way you help out those who come from disadvantaged communities but on an individual bases not a mass blunt instrument.
What do you think of the idea? I wonder if anyone sitting in government is reading this?
Heellooo!
