5 Ways Egypt Can Avoid Becoming Pakistan.

What? An Anti-Pakistan article published in 'The Atlantic'? Why am I not surprised? Its the most pro-Israel, pro-Republican, pro-Corporations and anti-China news outlet there is. And Jefferey Goldberg is famous for speaking in tune with Israeli policies.

Nothing here to read.

Can you show me which publication is pro-pakistani? BBC is bad coz of their Pakistani programmes. Now CNN is bad.

Even Pakistani media is promoting hatred. All in the world is Anti-Pakistani.

Why don't you think why is it like that?

ok
so despite being at side of soviet union for so many years and fighting india for so many years...
despite being at the side of an unstable afghnistan ..
despites these there has been no indication what so ever that in past or future the system will fail and there will be choas
govt though considered to be the most corrupt govt has achieved growth rate of 4%

i still dont see why we considered a failure....

.
It's best to stay away from both the Pakistani Model and the Saudi Model, Focus on Growth, Unity, end the Military Junta, Rights for minorities I would even accept a Copt for President. and move away from the USA influence.

.
Egypt is a bit like pakistan, it has a big middle class, which will stop egypt from going into complete chaos.

. .
Egypt needs to return to Pharoah rule in order to usher in the new Egyptian golden age.

.
Why bring Pakistan's negatives into everything? Sure we are used to all this domestically in our own country but internationally speaking the author or whatever who decides to do this is seriously being biased and it just shows his or her's hatred towards us. :hitwall:

If this thread is about Egypt, then it should be titled " 5 ways Egypt can solve Palestine and Israel's issues".

1. Move away from U.S's support
2. Encourage both states to talk to each other.
3. Use it's military for peace keeping purposes
4. Persuade other Arab countries to get involved and or use them for Lobbying
5. Open Egyption boarder for Palestinians who are trying to get away from Israel's attacks on civilians.

.
^^^ And how will that help Egypt's domestic challenges ? Pakistan is the perfect showcase of a non-functioning democratic state reduced to having a Islamist constitution and all these problems are precisely which Egypt is advised to avoid, if it wants to be a true democracy. So the example provided is perfectly right.

There is no such thing as democracy in this world. That is clear for sure wheather its the U.S, Canada, France, U.K., Australia.
Do you think Lobbying is democratic? All these countries use this to take advantage of some sort. Moreover, female muslims (born and raised in France) are not allowed to wear hijabs. Is that Democracy? America, a so called 'worlds biggest and true democratic state' does not have health care for its citizens. is this democracy? Egypt or any other developing country that wants democracy will never be possible.

Do you think that Iraq is democratic now? Well we have seen that after Sadam Hussain was hanged, a minority Shi'te person was asked to take control. How he came to power was not by democracy. Rather it was due to the fact that Americans had the control and hence wanted someone a puppet.

Although Ghaddafi maybe a bad person but the way people killed him in the end shows violence. DO you expect to see violent people using democracy properly as its use?

You can compare Egypt and libya because people are violent.

Do you want to compare that to Pakistan? You must be kidding me because in Pakistan we have had all sorts of rulers and never we saw our own people killing or torturing a head of state in its history. Our problems are quite different. Its like comparing and growing mangoes to coffee beans.

So listen you Indian, You can try whatever you can but there is no way where you guys can compare Egypt and or any other developing country with Pakistan. Yes i know it feels good to disown Pakistan in this world. But facts are facts....

Well, I am not comparing Pakistan with Libya, i am comparing with Egypt. Both have Blasphemy laws, the penalty in Pakistan is death whereas the penalty in Egypt is far lesser (6 months-5 years). In fact Blasphemy laws have led to a wider bloodshed in Pakistan than in Egypt. Both have had heads of state assassinated by radicals at some point of time. Both have had military-led governments for a longer period than when the state came into existence. Both are Islamic states. Radical Islam is an eyesore in both nations, which is much worse off in Pakistan due to the deeply-rooted sectarian differences, which gives leverage to outfits like LeJ and SSP to carry out massacres against Shias on a massive scale. So yes, the similarities far outweigh the differences in case of both countries.

Well i'm no expert about Egypt's domestic politics. However, what i know is that their foreign policies definitely differ from Pakistan. Our Army takes stance against sovereignty. Again, there is little knowledge i know about Egypt but what is clear is that it is more like Libya and Syria.

The current revolution is the proof. Pakistan never had revolution and will never. It has been 65 years and generally people in Pakistan think on personal level. for the betterment. In Egypt, that is surly not the case because there is as i said a revaloution which had involved millions, if not majority of the country's population. Revolutions are there to create unity. In Pakistan, we have Baluchis, mohajirs, Pashtuns, Pujabis, and Sindhis. All of which think they are superior in some way.

Take Zulfiqar Mirza's case against mohajirs/MQM. Take Baluchi case against all ethnics for the use of land and natural resource. Take Mohajirs case against Pahtuns and Punjabis living in Karachi. All this is a mess. However when it comes to country's leadership, we have some who support Musharraf, some who support Nawaz Sharrif, whom had some twice in power, some favouring Altaf Hussain, some supporting religious groups, and some supporting their local landlords.

Egypt clearly has a revolution. I've never heard about their ethnicities in the country. Even if there are different types the we don't see the difference or hear it on the news. The few people from that country i've met have shown me that they believe everything negative to be over at once. There is no middle gap like Pakistan

I'v already corrected you on the blasphemy law. But clearly you are here to troll and not learn.
I guess I will just have to correct you every time you spew your hate.

What correction did you give me ? That ZAB approved the Blasphemy law ? What difference does it make who approved it ? And do not worry, though my education on Pakistan is not perfect, it is at least thorough to debunk the "myths" in Pakistan.

Clearly you only remember what you want to, so let me correct you again.
The blasphemy law is applied to everyone equally, all religions are protected by it. So you can be charged equally if you instult Jesus, Buddha, or whom ever.
Furthermore, I will agree that the law is being misused but not against Non Muslims, but rather against Muslims.
Majority of people caught by the blasphemy law have been Muslim.
So that debunks your myth that non Muslims are targeted.

conversely I could mention the 7 year jail term for eating beef in India and how unfair that is, but that would just make me hungry :D

You have to backup your statement with facts, while I can outright refute your statement.
According to the bishops' commission report, of the 647 people charged with blasphemy, 50 percent were Muslims-- although Muslims make up 97 percent of the country's population. Christians accounted for 13 percent of those charged, although Christians account for just 2.5 percent of the population. Of the 20 people who have been murdered after being charged, 6 have been Christians.
Link : Christians often victims under Pakistan's blasphemy law
Here is something more for you from Factbox: Pakistan's blasphemy law strikes fear in minorities
In 2009, 40 houses and a church were set ablaze by a mob of 1,000 Muslims in the town of Gojra, Punjab. At least seven Christians were burned to death. The attacks were triggered by reports of the desecration of the Koran. Police had already registered a case under Section 295C against three Christians for blasphemy.

Last July, two Christian brothers accused of writing a blasphemous letter against the Prophet Mohammad were gunned down outside a court in the eastern city of Faisalabad.
So on both accounts you are wrong, Non-muslims are overwhelmingly targeted and overwhelmingly convicted. Heck, the case of Taseer and Shahbaz Bhatti still run fresh. Point me to the number of convictions for being blasphemed for Jesus or Buddha.

Hence, the justification is indeed correct for advising Egypt not to become another Pakistan.
