'4,000 new AC buses, taxicabs for capital soon'

DHAKA, May 27 (BSS) - Communications and Railways Minister Obaidul Quader today said 4,000 air-conditioned vehicles including 2,000 buses would be imported for the capital city.

"The government would approve the import of 2000 good- looking AC (air-conditioned) buses and 2000 AC taxicabs for Dhaka city soon," he told newsmen after a meeting on 'Ensuring Fitness and Good-looking Vehicles for Dhaka City' at Rail Bhaban here.

The minister called upon all transport owners to ensure fitness and good-looking of the buses and other motor vehicles within three months.

He simultaneously urged all banks to come forward with financial assistances like loan facilities for the transport owners so that they could be able to make their vehicles good- looking and attractive.

"We have a plan to set up two bus parking areas at Fulbaria and Mirpur in the capital," Quader added.

Replying to a query, the communications minister said Malaysia is expected to give a formal proposal with regard to the construction of Padma Bridge tomorrow.

State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Islam Tuku, ecretary of Roads and Highways M A N Siddique, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Ayubur Rhaman Khan, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Benzir Ahmed, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank SM Moniruzzman and Secretary General of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Samity Khandaker Enayetullah, among others, were present in the meeting.

My question is why we always look at India ?????????? What about our developers ? If our engineers can got to Dubai and build their cities, why not in Bnagladesh !!!!!!!

Nothing wrong with Indian buses, plus they are cheap and suited to the roads of the sub continent.

Delhi has about 6000-7000 of these new Tata and Ashok Leyland buses. Looks as good as any other European or Korean buses.

Look at Padma bridge, one looting scheme exposed Awami League with help of indians came up with another one - with Malaysian label. Then came Sahara group with massive land grabbing scheme in the name of investment. This time Sheikh Hasina's nephew has been made the local chief of Sahara-Awami League looting venture. For bus and taxi it will be Tata-Awami League looting venture.
