But even then its a home grown effort lead by syrian muslims. US mainly backs the kurdish nationalist and hopes to gain foothold in syria with kurdish help. They sometimes "mistakenly" bomb the rebel positions in idlib and doesn't mind russia bombing them. Look at aleppo. The west is very happy with the situation there. Well some muslims don't get the fact that opposing west west does not necessarily mean you have to support the atrocities committed by so called enemies of the west. This line of thinking is very simplistic. and has made muslims overlook inhuman atrocities committed by the russians and chinese , the so called enemies of the west. Assad is genocidal? I didn't know that. There are many Syrian refugees in Luton. They generally are Assad supporters, though the fact that most of them are from Damascus and Deir az Zor could be a reason. Also I think anti-government rebel groups funded, trained and armed by the CIA to destabilize Syria have killed more people in the last two years than entire tenure of the Assad regime starting from Hafez al Assad.

I am being blunt here. USA's intentions in Syria is not good at all. USA wants to destabilize Syria to gain access to the oil reserves there like it did in Iraq in 2003 through false propaganda and lies. In the end only common people there suffered and the war gave rise to militant groups which subscribed to very strict interpretation of Islam not compatible with the modern world. We all know those groups today, I am not naming them. Some Nouri al-Maliki puppet government of US is now there in Iraq discriminating against Sunnis wherever and whenever possible. We don't want same situation in Syria, it would be a disaster.

Assad might be a dictator but at least he kept Syria stable and safe. Syrians were in much better hands under him, at least they didn't have to suffer daily airstrikes on their homes, schools and hospitals.

Look at Syria now. It Assad falls (May God forbid), Syria would likely go the Libya way with another round of senseless violence among rival groups to gain control of the centre. Gaddafi's Libya was much better than the Libya now. All that Libya has now is infighting among power aspirants and common people bearing the brunt. Do we want that for Syria too?

Please leave this Shariah debate for now and think about what's best for the Syrian people. So many innocents dying everyday because of vested interests of some countries, it's not good, it's very dangerous for the future. What we are seeing now is version 2.0 of cold war proxies. Until the time some united opposition comes to fore in Syria (the Syrian opposition is not united, there is much infighting going on), plz count on Assad to bring much needed stability there.
