Just give it time. East is on the rise, all Asian countries are rising, the era of USA being the leader of the world is fast coming to an end, the recovery after the biggest recession since the great depression has been the smallest recovery on record, things are looking bleak etc... I don't think the crazies in Southern US will last another 2-3 decades without going boom.

The central uniting factor of most Western nations is capitalism and money. Once they start having economic problems, the glue that holds them together falls apart. Now in Canada things have been getting better over the years so Quebec is actually looking less and less likely to ever seperate (there have been a couple of referrendums in past decades and they both failed).

Spain, US etc... though will eventually fall apart if they're not able to keep their economies going, and they won't. With Asia on the rise they will eventually become second best in everything (Asia is home to half the world's pop'n and when most of the continent develops than the West will literally become an after thought).

Secessionist movements are as old as USA itself, and will remain a part of the political landscape as long as it exists, you can be sure of that.

Comparing the USSR breakup to the US is just dumb. First off the USSR had ethnic races concentrated in areas like Azerbaijan or Kazahstan. Chechens think themselves Chechens before Russian. A majority of Texans are loyal Americans they would vote against secession. Another thing about the "militias" they are a pathetic bunch. All you would have to do is send the Army Rangers against the Michigan militia and the war would be over next Friday. All they are preparing for some global economic collapse. The only way Civil war will happen is if some dick head of a president were to ban the second amendment and call for weapons confiscation. if that would happen you would have Waco in every state. Also if some white nationalist group took power in the US there would be civil war. Other then that I can't think of another scenario. The people who keep harping about this are foreigners who do not know American politics,hate America and hope civil war would happen. I am sorry folks not happening. Even the texas governor Rick Perry said he is against secession.

I doubt there are enough nut cases in the Republican party who can cause any Red state to secede.

Look at the occupy movement, it has some sympathy, it just does not have enough support from the masses to be a large credible movement.

I just saw a news where a Tanning shop owner committed suicide. Very tragic that people would get so emotional over a process which takes place every four years.

The general perception is that the real american race (caucasian) feels dejected over romny's defeat. Obama didnt do wonders to the economy, jobless rate has risen.

I am unable to comprehend this behavior of american people, why and what have made them sign these petitions.
