It's easy to say that when you don't know reality. The fact is Pakistan and India were close to agreeing on the Chenab formula. Don't be delusional, we can never take the whole of Kashmir from India (just like they can't take the whole of Kashmir from us). There was crisis started from 12 October 1999 because the daddy US was angry with Mushi making a coup, I remember it like yesterday because I was an adult at that time, 1999 mushi coup sent pakistan 10 years behind because western countries particularly US was not happy with the coup and they wanted to make the life hell for mushi and his gang. I remember how mushis was begging bill clinton in 2000 to have a small meeting with him when bill clinton made an official visit to india that year. Bill clinton did come to pakistan for few hours after constant begging from mushi regime but left on the same day and this was the first time in decades that a pakistani ruler was officially humiliated by US, there was no such precedent before that in entire history of pakistan before 1999.

Then this Mr. know it all Mushi imported the shorcut aziz and I remember he wanted to collect sales tax and wanted to have documented economy in the trade shop sectors. And there was a month long strike and closure of shops all over the pakistan including my city Gujranwala, I remember our bazars were closed for a whole one month during that time which I had never witnessed ever in my life before. Finally the midget shortcut aziz/mushi backtracked and the bazaars opened.

Then the "strongman" of kargil was begging wajpai to meet him and humiliating the top post of pakistan at that time, the same guy who was waging "jahad" a year ago in 1999 againt india in kargil was begging for "peace" and "ceasing" the support of armed struggle in kashmir. What a great character this midget showed in just less than two years after great "kargil" fiasco.

Then Musharraf got his lottery of life when 9/11 happened in 2001 and certainly the angry daddy US wanted to have "help" from him for its war on terror in neighboring in Afghanistan. Mushi must have said to himself "meri to sali duniya hi badal gayi rato raat". Economic aid from US and its allies started pouring in, debt was rescheduled and relaxed and american/british/NATO officials were coming day in day out, pakistan literally became like a colony of US after that and the aftermath of that is what we are facing till today in terms of terrorism and attacks that take place regularly on our soil, there was one even today in balochistan gawadar, this is all the "great" legacy of mushi.

Spot on...Musharaf was another selfish general who just played to gallery to consolidate his power..He is an extreme leader without taking a specific stand against anything...
He was architech of Kargil war and to stabilize his positio among world power he did not hesitate to have peace with India..What a contradiction in his mind...He blamed Nawaz for Pakistan to step down in Kargil war and dethroned him but at the same time, allowed US Pakistan after 9/11..

Pakistan got stability as during his period as Pakistan was in US camp..not for his any acheivement of his own..

Why was mushi begging to the same india and its wajpai to have "peace" with him and offering "complete withdrawl" of the support to kashmiri armed stuggel in early 2000s when he was waging "kargil" against same wajpai in 1999. How was india of early 2000s any different than india of 1999 when he did kargil against india.

Spot on...India at 1999 is no way different than 2000.If he really believed in peace then Pakistan should ask him about need of a wasted opportunity for you in Kargil war..

NS initiated some good steps to normalize relation with India suring which Vajpayee visited Pakistan...Musharaf criticized and dethroned him 4 his peace deal with India...But after he came to power, he was more flwxible with India by stopping support to armed militancy of Kashmir...So what does it mean for Pakistan???

Without healthy foreign reserves due to sustainable policies like increased exports $$$, all gains are short-term.

Mush and his economic hitman (Shortcut Aziz), who was imported into Pakistan and left as soon as things for the govt were wrapping up, focused so much on banking that the real industries capable of boosting exports (garments, for example, which not only employs thousands but also generates billions in foreign reserves) were totally ignored.

And, like many have pointed out, we have to hold Mush to a much more stringent standard because he had extraordinary powers, yet he still chose to partner with MQM and Q League...?! He didn't reform the civil service, the real backbone of a functioning country, and sold out even more quickly than the Americans themselves expected (they famously expected more resistance on a few key points but he caved before they even put much pressure!)

All in all, that was probably the last great chance for a visionary dictator to fix things --- instead he bungled it all up and he should never be forgiven. In fact, he should be tried for treason along with Zardari and Nawaz & Co so we can rid ourselves of this recent rot once and for all.

HEC , Higher Education Comission was also assigned role of figuring out validity of University Degrees for politicians and perform all international queries to verify a person's University Degree verification

On Engineering Segment he revived the Rasulpor Railway & Locomotive Industrial Unit to manufacture Locomotives inside Pakistan

His most expensive contributions were completing dozen feasibilities for dams and building mangla uprising which had a capacity of 3MAF. This is equal to half of bhasha dam size and 3 times size of munda dam!
Than all public sector corporations were in positive ready for privatization from PIA to steel mills every sector was in positive ..he successfully got rid of 25% shares of PTCL and brought telecom revolution privitzed steel mills but that was knocked out by supreme court
Today noone wants to buy that for free! Lol

Oh there was no circular debt..but there was gas misuse for power and looming crisis of mismanagement in 2008 financial crisis given lack of flexibility due to same political rhetoric that we have seen.

Pakistan had just gained Nuclear Bomb and we were the Only Islamic Country with Nuclear weapons and as a Pakistani I was very proud of that achievement. Surprisingly, Musharraf was keen on Economy and it was very visible he was a man who understood the business or making money and selecting people who are best in this role . He himself of course was more interested in the affairs of military.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INCUBATOR
The highlights of Musharraf's Era perhaps include , provisioning the seeds of Information Technology in Pakistan , import of massive computers and distribution channels for IT across the country

a) Every Corporate Company in Pakistan was asked to setup a online Web Presence
b) Every Corporate Company in Pakistan was asked to share their Financials Online
c) Every Corporate Company was asked to have a working IT office so information
can be shared with consumers


REVIVAL OF NATIONAL ASSETS
All of Pakistan's National Assets were given an overhaul , with revival of National Companies

• Pakistan International Airlines
• Steeles Mills
• Railways

All were Profit Making organizations , even when things started with a loss making scenarios

Musharraf believed in getting the best Pakistani Talent across the world and even if it meant paying Western Style Salaries to attract foreign based Pakistanis to return back home to help rebuild a robust Economy

Job Adds went as far as North America , for Jobs in Pakistan's Executive Job level I myself saw these adds myself , but I never was at that career level



Privatization of Pakistan's Banking Sector
Pakistan's Banking sector was privatized , and people who knew how to run a Bank were given the keys to the Banks , so that each Bank became profitable in their own rights

Once the Banks started to function lot of Customer facing Jobs were created Locally in Pakistan which created many Jobs in the Banking Sector

The period also saw , expansion of banks into many bank branches across Pakistan
and that also stimulated Property sale to Banks.



Telecommunication Sector Overhaul
Pakistan's Telephone system of old was very dependent on land lines and anyone born in 80's and 90's would remember how hard it was for people to get a traditional Land Phone line.

All these old Infrastructure problems were solved as Telecommunication companies started to set their base in Pakistan and gradually started to introduce Cell Phones in Pakistan
Cell phones changed lives of Pakistanis greatly and it was a major status symbol across the country to hold a cell phone and talk in it while walking or standing outside

Improved Cell phone infrastructure meant that more people were connected to each other and it was easier to reach out to do business deals



Freedom of TV and Media
Pakistan as a nation was mainly used to 1-2 TV channels most of the 70's and 90's
and in 90's Dish Antenna had spread across the nation however with Dish Antennas it brought unexpected vulgar shows into Pakistani homes

To counter that Musharraf introduced Privatization of TV channels so that Pakistani Audience can get access to more Pakistani Content , Political Discussions and shows inline with Pakistan's own values. 1999-2007 saw an explosion of TV channels on national cable lines

Growth of Anchors and reporters meant more shows which targeted and exposed corruption and it opened eyes of Pakistani people to possibility of viewing live events unfolding for first time 100% free of any censorship

Mushraf alongside Vajpayee came to understand that there is no military solution to Kashmir and hence started negotiations for a diplomatic solution. Every thing was fantastic had it not been for PPP and PML-N criminals to return to Pakistan and bring chaos to Pakistan under National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)

> Nawaz Sharif is in Prison for Money Laundering
> Cases are pending against Zardari and Sister for Money Laundering
> Today whole country knows dangers of fundamentalism, people pause and evaluate
many outcomes , debate about pending issues

It's sad that no one mentions Musharraf's achievements due to political pressure these days

If anything I expected a full pardon granted to him from Imran Khan , and all cases against him thrown out to trash

In 1999 , when he stepped in to kick out Nawaz Sharif , it was mainly becasue Nawaz Sharif had destroyed Economy similar to what it looks like now. I remember the chaos even then it was needed because Nawaz Sharif's only goal was Take loan and make a road

From a Historical Stand point of view , it is important to acknowledge the positive contributions Musharaf Left for Pakistan

The cooperation with Americans was needed in order to control the spread of chaos emitting from Afghanistan

Yes it is 100% debatable under Obama Era the relations soured but by then Musharraf was dealing with lot of local issues as well

But for most part his decision impacted Pakistan Positively and created a positive environment to keep Pakistan on good side on War on Terrorism

One aspect which amazes me is that lack of supportive material for Musharaf's economy only western scholarly documents now exist , as their is negative impression from PPP and PML about Musharaf and they tend to hide or discredit his achivement , so I thought it is vital to acknowledge the achivements of this great Pakistani Leader

Mushraf alongside Vajpayee came to understand that there is no military solution to Kashmir and hence started negotiations for a diplomatic solution. As an Indian wouldn't you prefer that both nations live in harmony?

Mate...if things goes in my wish, i like to see where rather than soldiers standing between border of India and Pakistan, there can be resturants, entertainment center, hospitals and convention centers in the border of both nation where people from both country can access avail this oppertuniy....but the debate here is different...Personally, i prefer a corrupt politician is more accoutable to people than any army general...Soldiers can not be leaders..Musharaf has done lot of good thing for India where i should appriciate him for being an Indian here...But his steps to take Kargil, created a impression in the mind of Indian Gov of the inability of Pakistan’s democratically elected gov to take any step to normalise relation with India....

There was crisis started from 12 October 1999 because the daddy US was angry with Mushi making a coup, I remember it like yesterday because I was an adult at that time, 1999 mushi coup sent pakistan 10 years behind because western countries particularly US was not happy with the coup and they wanted to make the life hell for mushi and his gang. I remember how mushis was begging bill clinton in 2000 to have a small meeting with him when bill clinton made an official visit to india that year. Bill clinton did come to pakistan for few hours after constant begging from mushi regime but left on the same day and this was the first time in decades that a pakistani ruler was officially humiliated by US, there was no such precedent before that in entire history of pakistan before 1999.

Then this Mr. know it all Mushi imported the shorcut aziz and I remember he wanted to collect sales tax and wanted to have documented economy in the trade shop sectors. And there was a month long strike and closure of shops all over the pakistan including my city Gujranwala, I remember our bazars were closed for a whole one month during that time which I had never witnessed ever in my life before. Finally the midget shortcut aziz/mushi backtracked and the bazaars opened.

Then the "strongman" of kargil was begging wajpai to meet him and humiliating the top post of pakistan at that time, the same guy who was waging "jahad" a year ago in 1999 againt india in kargil was begging for "peace" and "ceasing" the support of armed struggle in kashmir. What a great character this midget showed in just less than two years after great "kargil" fiasco.

Then Musharraf got his lottery of life when 9/11 happened in 2001 and certainly the angry daddy US wanted to have "help" from him for its war on terror in neighboring in Afghanistan. Mushi must have said to himself "meri to sali duniya hi badal gayi rato raat". Economic aid from US and its allies started pouring in, debt was rescheduled and relaxed and american/british/NATO officials were coming day in day out, pakistan literally became like a colony of US after that and the aftermath of that is what we are facing till today in terms of terrorism and attacks that take place regularly on our soil, there was one even today in balochistan gawadar, this is all the "great" legacy of mushi.

Well, I can see the anger in ur analysis, hence I am afraid its way biased, specially the language, MusharMus Begged for meeting with Clinton, Right? And exactly when after him any given US president visited Pakistan? If u were an adult, U can clearly tell that Pakistan evolved during his Period, from digitalization of services, IT, Communication, Media, Education, everything simply evolved, i don't think it would be fair to deny it,
