11-Year-old Girl Punished in School for Wearing 'Tilak' on Her Birthday

May be i have not come across...... Why cant they tolerate a Tilak???? What is harm in wearing it??? I cant understand.....

kido... did it appeared to you, that it could be staged drama, to kick start 'ghar wapsi' scheme.

.
btw, it is pretty clear that this story is being played up by vested interests. Not surprising.

See the addition of standing in the sun - like the Principal's office is in the middle of the desert.....

The original story carried this - "An 11-year-old girl in Telangana was allegedly made to stand for two hours outside her school principal's room as punishment for wearing a "tilak" on her birthday."

people like u never fail to amaze me :hitwall::hitwall: a gal was punished on her bday for going to a temple and wearing a tilak on her head on her head on her bday. her parents where riddiculed for there fault of taking her to temple on her bday. she was asked to stand out for 2 hrs under the sun . she was debarred from the school, at the end of her academic year so that she will learn her mistake to not show her religious affiliation in a christian school located in a so called secular country with a hindu majority. Instead of questioning the motive of principal, u people see a vested interest being created here... I wonder what would u do, if something similar has happened to your own daughter. may be u would find fault with yourself and the fate of your daughter for visiting a temple on her bday??

the above pic is of the school building, where do u see a shade for the girl to stand for 2 long hours ?? not sure where u stay but in hyderabad temp is pretty high these days... punishing a child for no wrong of hers by asking her to stand under scorching sun and then later debarring her is insane..

i plan to open a school and all those students who seek admission in my school should accept me as their god , yes thats right i am their god from now on and they should obey my command.

if someone has a problem with that then please fck off because 'its my school , my rules'

can't imagine what levels of dumbness people can cross , we are moving towards true secularism.

u would still be called secular if u ridicule hinduism in your school.. :enjoy:

Dont know why ,even x'ian business grups like Muthoot group banned its staff from using tilak

After protests from Hindu groups ,they withdrawed that circular ....And this tilak ban is an unwritten law in many convent schools

Are you for real? Do you see the Principal sitting outside? How do you think people get inside their classrooms? Fly? there's a corridor clearly and only the blind don't see it. Why add something (standing 2 hours in the sun) that wasn't there in the story? to add masala?

This is just a story about a girl & a school from a parent's point of view and has no response whatever from the school. Yet you decide the school is at fault, presumably because it suits your beliefs. Even if this story is completely true, it is the prerogative of the school to enforce a dress code & that could include a ban on wearing the tilak. Just like it was the prerogative of the college in Mangalore to ban students wearing head scarves. The bit about birthday & temple etc are not relevant, one can go to a temple & still follow school rules when attending.

Btw, don't bother with being amazed at me, it is likely that you will be amazed by what I say on most things. I'm not here to give you an opinion that might meet with your approval always, so kindly stop being :"amazed" and move on.

Convent schools are strict but they are the best.
This is an isolated incident. Please dont give any weight to this news.
I'm proud to be educated from a convent school and I can vouch for these nuns who teach there. They are very devoted.
Not really, I've heard of some other schools that do stuff like this even here in Chennai, and in other places in TN.

Tilak/bindi seems to be a big obsession for these guys off late:
Mizoram Chief Minister and Congress chief Lal Thanhawla hit back against the opposition's attack on him for sporting a tilak
Wearing a Tilak in a state that is xtian majority becomes a "controversy" because it's a xtian state (notice how it isnt secular anymore)

Here is more fun stuff:

Here are the effects of RTE, from Ryan international school:

The best part is, that they are very clear on using Schools as tools to promote this stuff, it is actually a stated position, there was a study (lost the link maybe will post it in sometime if I find it), since they are vulnerable.

A lot of problems are being caused by RTE and some educational policies, but thats another topic.

I am with the school here. I went to a catholic school and the brothers were the nicest and most dedicated kind in the entire school. It is their school and their rules. You should see how many kids they teach in those schools. In thousands and they have to maintain discipline. I have highest respect for these minority schools which teach kids from all religions.

Are you mad? How does wearing a Tilak not be discipline? Can we ban crosses on the basis of them being undisciplined?

If you see that circular, there is a ban on sporting a beard (face neatly shaven.....). Does that make it anti-Muslim?

They refused to employ muslims because of the burqa too...sometimes, it's about avoiding religious symbolism.

School's choice. If a school decided that wearing crosses over the dress wasn't acceptable, they would be well within their rights . There is dress code for a reason. I have kept pointing out a story in Mangalore where a college banned students wearing head scarves (and rightly so imo) and that too was the right of that particular institution.

Btw, that bit about Oscar Fernandes is a bit of a red herring. It would entirely be up to him, just like Modi made a choice not to wear a skull cap.

This might be interesting:

NEW DELHI, INDIA, January 18, 2004: Expressing concern over its officers (both men and women) and jawans wearing "tilaks, vibhuti, birthstone rings and bracelets," on January 8, the Indian Army Headquarters sent a circular to all its formations detailing strict instructions on the "use of religious symbols" while in uniform. These instructions, issued by Adjutant General A. Natarajan with the cooperation of Army Chief N.C. Vij, are in addition to the existing dress regulations covered under 1962 regulations. The new instructions are especially strict for the Indian Army's women officers even though there are just about 75 of them in the million-strong force. They prohibit the use of bangles, ear-studs, lipstick and nail-polish. Sindoor can be used but only if it is not visible when a beret is on. Men officers and jawans can only wear a signet ring on the left hand. Multiple sacred threads on the wrist is not allowed. Only a single sacred thread can be worn and that, too, on the day of Puja. Kadas (steel bracelets) can be worn only by Sikh officers and men or officers commanding Sikh troops. No one can sport "tilak, vibhuti or any other religious symbol" while in uniform. No charms or sacred thread can be worn around the neck. If worn, no part should be visible outside the uniform.

I agree that it happens in some places...especially the missionary kind of schools..but most convents maintain neutrality when it comes to religion..I went to a convent school too and know hundreds of people who too have gone to one...none of them have come across such acts.

Thats upto Muslims ..If they think its anti-Islamic they can also protest ....

My point was more straightforward that there clearly didn't seem to be a specific anti-Hindu agenda, just a corporate dress code. As I have pointed out, there exists a similar ban in the Indian army over the sporting of religious symbols..

This is the result of hindus extreme hate towards its minorities. Sad poor child have to suffer due to extremist bjp party.
Please buddy, if you are suffering from a disease called "MIRGI" or "SELF-SATISFYING IGNORANCE" then consult a psychiatrist. Don't poke your nose(Like all of your fellow countrymen) where you are not required !
