Pakistan already has US-made MRAPS; New Deal in the works!

We don't know this. Regardless, they're a much better option than toyota and mitsubishi pickups. The fact that they're coming from Kuwait doesn't tell us anything as to their history. The US regularly rotates war stock, whether it be on US national guard bases Stateside or stocks in Okinawa...

    Pakistan Naval Aviation - Updated

Boeing marketing lies. Nothing new there. Whilst it can get to station quicker, it doesn't hold a candle to the P-3's loitering abilities.

China's persecution of religious minorities continues

BBC News - Chinese Christians fear crackdown Tibetan Buddhists , Uighur Muslims and now oppression of Christian minorities. Disgusting.

Pakistan PIA attains profit of Rs1.67bn for first quarter of 2014

It appears my skepticism was well founded. Had it not been for the exchange gain of 5.6B, PIA's losses would have been far greater. So much for the turn around . In other words, Pakistanis have got the Saudi Govt to thank for bailing them out.

Overseas assets: Sale of PIA hotels likely to rake in $700 million

I've been reading PIA corporate accounts for 10+ years. I'm aware of that. Do you think the hotels would be valued at $700m+ if they were loss making too?

Overseas assets: Sale of PIA hotels likely to rake in $700 million

If only making money was so easy. What about staffing costs? What about taxes? What about marketing? NO, they're carrying out the publicly stated plan of splitting PIA into a core business, bifurcation is a word you could use. Actually the recent lease tender for 10 aircraft was cancelled...

Pakistan PIA attains profit of Rs1.67bn for first quarter of 2014

Afghanistan: Obstacles and the way forward

Please don't take this the wrong way but why on earth does the US care what happens in the Af-Pak region post withdrawal? The US has no national interest at stake and any future terror cell security threats are most likely to come from Africa or the Arabian peninsula (as we saw with the printer...

Pakistan PIA attains profit of Rs1.67bn for first quarter of 2014

Whilst it may be a decline and baby step in the right direction, for an impoverished nation like Pakistan, losing $20m is a big deal. As I said, you can breathe a sigh of relief when the hajj and summer travel peak is over. Also, I understand according to other reports that the tender to...

Pakistan PIA attains profit of Rs1.67bn for first quarter of 2014

There seems to be a miss understanding on this thread given the kudos people are giving PK. Operational profit = Revenue - operational cost. Once you factor in the debt (a reality when you buy/lease new planes), you get: PIA hasn't made a profit since 2003 (pre-Zardari era). Let's not make...

Pakistan Civil Aviation | Information & News.

Actually, it's bloody awful. British Airways couldn't make any money flying to Dhaka with 90% load factors and despite overall profits, almost every single long haul Pacific route to Asia operated by airlines in the US is losing money. Qantas is losing money faster than it can count on...

Air Force to acquire Glock 17 pistols

Whilst perusing ppra tenders (as normal folk do), I came across an interesting tender issued by the Pak defence attache presumably on behalf of the PAF (PAF is to take receipt of tender). http://www.ppra.org.pk/doc/2-4/dgdp24-154.pdf At a guess, this tender will go some way in equipping...

PM approves acquisition of five Boeing 777 aircraft for PIA

Buying. PIA received a 50% discount and is paying around $150m per 77W. Standard practice when an order is firmed is a 10% deposit is paid for the production slots. The PIA order is firm and was so when placed initially in 2012: EVERETT, Wash., Feb. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA]...

PM approves acquisition of five Boeing 777 aircraft for PIA

Until they pull out from most EU and Asia routes, in addition to cutting the workforce by 75%, they won't turn a profit. PIA said that circa 2002 when they placed the initial 777 order too. You only need to look over the border to see how overstaffing, corruption and low yielding VFR traffic...

MH370 might have landed somewhere and not crashed into Indian ocean.

Very plausible given the scant facts. There was a cockpit fire in an Egyptair 777 on ground a few years ago. I believe it was linked to the FO's O2 supply. So severe was the damage to the cockpit that the aircraft was w/o. Unlike the the 727, the 777 does not have the option of built in...

    Boeing delivers 8000th 737

Amazing. I can still remember my first 737 flight in 1990 as a kid on a British Airways 737-200. Over 20 years later, Boeing has just delivered the 8000th to UA as a -900ER variant (about twice as capable as the -200). Boeing Delivers 8,000th 737 - Apr 16, 2014

I used to live not far from there near Skipton. Interesting little fact - the Dent fault line runs through the area and if you live around there long enough you'll become accustomed to mini earthquakes!

Flight MH370: Missteps by China slowed search for missing jet

If there are any questions to be asked about the SAR response, I think the one that should be asked first is why on earth did the Singapore authorities not take charge - after all according to ICAO regulations, the aircraft was in their FIR and thus their responsibility
