I think you are confusing two things...MLU and star falcon upgrade that I explained in my previous post (see above). The existing PAF F-16s will recieve both upgrades , structural (star falcon upgrade) and MLU (technology upgrade) to extend their lives and bring them up to blk 50 standard...
MLU (mid-life upgrade) is a program to introduce advance techonology into older F-16s. That is converting F-16 to blk 40 (MLU-3) or blk 50 (MLU-4).
Falcon Star upgrade is another upgrade but that has to do with structural upgrade i.e. replace parts that have lived their lives, and service...
PAF will get the new blk 52 and MLUs (hopefully) by 2010-11...so its not waiting another 5 yrs.
MMRCA wont enter service before 2013-15 by which time FC-20 would be around. Tejas (if they are any worth) wont be entering service anytime soon either. Their Mirages haven't got the updates as...
Somewhere, somehow I have the feeling that the date 2014-15 indicates that PAF will not go for western avionics and certainly not a western engine for the FC-20.
If you recall the interview ex-ACM gave at IDEAS 2008 about FC-20, he said: " we have told them exactly what kind of avionics we...
The FC-20 (improved J-10) will be acquired around 2014-15. It seems like the earlier J-10 purchase, as reported earlier by some people, is not happening. SO currently, it is 2014-15 for FC-20 as was mentioned on the day of signing of the first 42 JF-17 planes by the ACM.
Reuters has it, Wall street Journal has it , France24 has it as do many other papers. I don't think these would be talking on made-up stuff.

I don't think finding spares/servicing would be a problem. Look at the attached image, there are authorized centers in China/UAE and Embraer owned service centers in France and Spain.

Add to that intelligence!
Its highly unlikely that planes would be popping out from where they aren't expected. In other words, intelligence should give you a good idea of where each of these planes would be so you know where and how to focus you attention.

Can you imagine the unit cost of JF-17 with those french systems you have mentioned? and that too for a nation that is getting the cheaper chinese ones with a loan?
We seriously need to improve our economy if we want to get anything half decent because at the end, its a money game...you pay...
There's a saying "Don't try to run faster than your shadow".
The JF-17 is a totally new platform and PAF and PAC are new entrants into aircraft development. The most important thing is to take the time and mature what you have in hand....it still needs IFR, weapons integration, EW suite, start...
