7hours & 310km/h, last sunday i just 'flying' half of China by CRH train

This night im playing my smartphone, and found last sunday(2015.1.18) taking CRH train pics from ZhenZhou city of HeNan province to ShenZhen city of GuangDong province, 1,900km distance from two different China cities.

Pls let me show these real pics on a 300~310km/h high-speed train, it's about 1.18-12:20pm left ZhenZhou train station & 1.18-7:30pm reached ShenZhen city which close to HongKong. I bought a 2nd-class ticket, cost 750 RMB(anyway cheaper than a airline ticket).

The CRH train just left ZhenZhou train station, speed up to 278km/h

Are you just posting some pics of HSR or have you just traveled half of China

nice post, @cnleio ... how did you book and manage to be on board at the station? is it easy and fast ? any experience ?

because as I read from that 7 hours are just the travelling time of the train

it takes 1 day and a half to travel by railway in our country ( from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city )
better I take an air ticket for a 2 hours flight, cost about 250 RMB for one way.

I had been in many China cities before(usually in South China, few in North China), this time due to my personal business i went to HeNan province two weeks ago, then back home i chose the CRH train.

1. If u have internet bank, u can buy CRH ticket on internet.
2. If u have ID card, u can buy it on Self-service Ticket Office of local train station.

All just cost few minutes.

Is there many who travel by CRH ? Crowded ? at station, and on board ?

How you get there, Henan? could you compare the diff ?

i think 727.5 rmb is cheaper than most plane tickets?
plus train stations are in downtown areas, save the commuting time to remote airports.

i usually book and pay the ticket online, no need to line up in front of those Self-service machines.

The CRH train only sell seat ticket ... yes there'r many travellers like to choose CRH special over 1,000km distance.
Except transportation during the Spring Festival, there's no crowded on CRH, everyone must has a seat here just like on my pics.

Two weeks ago when i went to HeNan province, i chose a normal sleeping train and it spend 15 hours to run 1,900km ... i guess almost 200km/h. Of course cheaper than CRH ticket only 400+RMB, but im happy can sleep all day on the train.

One week ago after my back, coz busy i chose the CRH still 1,900km but only spent 7 hours, of course CRH ticket cost 700+RMB ... tell the truth, i hate to spend many hours sit on the train & it's easy to make me feel tired.

Good to see that China is starting to become a global leader when it comes to rail transport.

india can also do this but india will first have to remove the cows and dogs .....etc

Amazing experience, @cnleio !

It is a shame that I have not done a cross-country in China yet. I once did a cross-country in the US (NY to San Francisco) on AMTRAK. Slow but decent, I should say. I then tried a Greyhound cross-country, this time backwards. It was terrible and I had to cut my travel in half, finish it off on board of a plane.

But China's HSR is another level and given I am increasingly becoming wary of flying, I am more than happy to take HSR whenever there is an option.

American has less motivation to have such a Shinkansen, they prefer air passenger as fast means of transport, and cars as hobby.

Btw, for an overnight sleep on train travel, it saves hotel room cost too.

@cnleio : is it easy and cheap to really fly in China? I read from your post it's quite expensive and not comfortable ?
anyway, it saves time. I just checked jetstar rate tomorrow, it costs me about 800,000 vnd ( approx. 35 USD or 250 RMB ) to travel from Hanoi to HCMC ( 2 hours 15 mins flight ), and yes it takes 20min from Hanoi center to the Airport

air travel in Vietnam is the only choice for fast moving, especially while our railway is so bad.

To Sapa from Hanoi, we prefer an overnight ride or 5-6 hours of driving.
for a holiday in Sapa, we finish the work on Friday, take a ride overnight and enjoy the holiday next morning, another night in hotel and Sunday evening back to Hanoi. Just one night sleep in Sapa.

Considering the time, distance & cost of ticket it is definately reasonable. Also, how many times we heard HSR delay compared to domestic flight? Plus it is safer, at least psychologically less stress, & a good view of scenery.

Exactly. It is indeed less stressful. Air travel is fast, but, there is the time spent to get to the airport, then security checks. If you are on economy and have stop-overs, you may end up spending an equal amount of time as you would have on an HSR.

The point is not kill or defame flying. Both (HSR and flight) have their own rationale (weaknesses and strengths).

The beauty lies in the fact that we have choices. That's, of course, thanks to China's planners and doers.

yeah air travel must compete hard with HSR to survive ...
in Vietnam when I plan a trip of 900km and above, the first thinking is on air travel.
The first question spring out "which airliner offer the best rate?"

I would not think about train in Vietnam for atleast 3 years, before any improvement has been made to them.
