What's new

Zardari granted bail on health grounds

May be... but that was also due to political pressure from IK.
Remember when Nawaz was PM, Zardari and IK were allies.
Now again you will see IK getting ghost votes in constitutional amendments cases.

How is it possible when very recently sharif’s, buttho/zardari and fazlula were all against IK ? So IK is the root cause of all those harami’s escapes... hmmm

.
"Meh NRO nahi du ga", he kept saying.

That was only in context of Sharif family.... there as well i'm not clear what were the charges!

What's holding IK from being an absolute dictator is few constitutional amendments.
How IK will be used by his handlers afterwards..... i can already guess.

Ground reality is the crimes of Zardari are beyond corruption... and no security agency is bothered!
Only link, i see is the upcoming constitutional amendments, helping IK become absolute dictator. and would Zardari help IK become absolute dictator.... this is more recent?

Could you tell me more about the constitution’s amendment you are talking about please ?
It will help me to understand better the situation.

Thanks.

This is all you concern about?
Biggest traitor of Pakistan's history has been freed and security agencies are unmoved. This is ALARMING!!!!!!!!!
Military lead need extension, which require constitutional amendment, what more opportune moment could be to negotiate release of traitor e azam aka Zardari!

.
Pakistan only imprisons healthy people.

Just murder... Then get sick... You are a free SOB!

I know the biggest traitor is freed and will escape abroad. It saddens me a lot, maybe my health problems are linked to what is happening in Pakistan.

But I don’t understood the link with zardari and IK dictatorship and Bajwa’s extension.

Sorry I’m sick and tired so my brain is not fully functioning since few days.

A car carrying PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari is surrounded by supporters while leaving Pims.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari was on Thursday released from custody at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), a day after he was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Park Lane and fake accounts cases on medical grounds.

The PPP leader was taken to Zardari House in the capital. Although he was expected to fly to Karachi today, the party decided against it.

Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said Zardari will spend the night at his Islamabad residence and will be shifted to Karachi tomorrow.

Zardari leaves Pims.

The former president was accompanied by his children Bilawal and Aseefa when he was allowed to leave Pims, which had been declared a sub-jail, after the completion of legal formalities. A large number of supporters gathered at the scene and threw rose petals on his car.

The IHC had on Wednesday granted post-arrest bail to Zardari in the Park Lane and fake accounts cases on medical grounds against surety bonds of Rs20 million and adjourned proceedings on the bail petition of his sister and lawmaker Faryal Talpur till December 17.

Both Zardari and Talpur have been under detention for the past six months, until the former's bail.

The court noted that the petitioner, who is one of the accused in a reference pending before an accountability court, “has not been convicted and, therefore, he is to be treated as innocent unless proven guilty”.

PPP information secretary and MNA Dr Nafeesa Shah while commenting on Zardari's release said today was a "good day" for the country and democracy.

She expressed the hope that like Zardari, other PPP leaders who are incarcerated due to "NAB's black law" will also be given relief.

Shah said the court had granted bail to Zardari on medical grounds and merit after government-appointed doctors recommended his treatment at a specialist care facility.

Asif Ali Zardari.

ISLAMABAD / KARACHI: PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday more than five months after he had been taken into custody by the national graft-buster on charges of financial corruption and money laundering.

A two-judge IHC bench – comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Amir Farooq – cited medical grounds for granting bail while directing Zardari to submit two surety bonds worth Rs10 million each to secure his release.

The 64-year-old has been in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) since his arrest on June 10 following the cancellation of his pre-arrest bail by the IHC.

Zardari has been receiving treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad since Oct after a six-doctor medical board concluded that he was suffering from multiple ailments – including heart conditions and diabetes – and needed medical care.

Officials at PIMS told The Express Tribune that they would discharge Zardari after receiving bail papers from the court on Thursday. Subsequently, he will be shifted to Karachi for specialised treatment – possibly at Ziauddin Hospital in the upscale Clifton neighbourhood.

The sexagenarian politician had filed the bail plea in the IHC on December 3 – over a month after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was granted bail on medical grounds by the IHC as well as the Lahore High Court.

Court proceedings

On Tuesday when the two-judge bench started proceedings, NAB Prosecutor General Jahanzaib Bharwana and his deputy Sardar Muzafar Abbasi appeared on behalf of the bureau, while Farooq H Naek represented his client Zardari.

The NAB prosecutors submitted Zardari’s medical report prepared by the medical board constituted on IHC’s orders to examine him.

According to the report, which was read out loud by the NAB prosecutors in the courtroom, Zardari is suffering from type-2 diabetes and heart conditions. He has three stents placed in his heart and needs an angiography. And if there is need to place more stents, then he would also undergo an angioplasty.

The report further says it is not possible for the under-trail PPP leader to receive proper treatment while in jail.

The NAB prosecutors informed the bench that the corruption watchdog had completed its interrogation and filed a reference. Upon this, Chief Justice Minallah asked the prosecutors if NAB wanted Zardari to remain in detention and receive treatment at the state’s expense. They didn’t answer. The bench granted bail to Zardari in both cases.

The bench also took up a bail application filed by Faryal Talpur, sister of Zardari, but adjourned the proceedings until December 17 as NAB had not submitted a response. The petitioner has maintained that she was mother to a differently-abled child who needs extra care; therefore, she should be granted bail until the completion of the trail.

Zardari, his sister and other accused face charges of money laundering through a web of fake bank accounts and embezzlement for Park Lane Estate Pvt Ltd and Parthenon Pvt Ltd. NAB alleged that the irregularities had caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs3.77 billion.

Shifting to Karachi

The ailing PPP co-chairperson is likely to be shifted to Karachi on Wednesday for specialised medical treatment. He would be admitted at Ziauddin Hospital in Clifton where, according to sources, a VIP room has been reserved for him.

Zardari would run some medical tests, including CT scan and angiography, while angioplasty will also be done, if necessary, sources added. No medical board has been set up for him, while the head of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Dr Nadeem Qamar, would be his consultant cardiologist.

Zardari had been under treatment at Cardiology Unit of PIMS under the supervision of the medical board comprising Dr Zulfiqar Ghauri, Dr Shah Jee, Dr Ahmed Siddiqui, Dr Muhammad Naeem, and Dr Sajid Nazeer Bhatti. Officials at PIMS told The Express Tribune by the phone that they would discharge Zardari as soon as they received bail papers from the court.

Zardari’s petition

In his petition, filed through his attorney Farooq H Naek, Zardari had nominated NAB and Accountability Court-II as respondents. The petitioner maintained that he was suffering from multiple diseases — including diabetes, cervical lumbar and spondylitis, and sensory and motor neuropathy with impaired proprioception.

According to the petition, Zardari also has a Holter monitor attached to his chest, which enables his medics to check and note variations in his heartbeat and blockages in his arteries.

It also noted that the PPP co-chair is a patient of ischemic heart disease, which means his heart may have an inadequate supply of blood and oxygen. The petition also stated that Zardari suffers from arthritis with a low platelet count, and all these illnesses cannot be treated within the jail premises.

“The petitioners’ condition makes it evident that his continued incarceration would prove detrimental to his life,” the petition added.

The cases against Zardari are part of the investigations being conducted by NAB in pursuance of the Supreme Court’s verdict in the money laundering of billions through fake accounts case wherein it was forwarded a joint investigation team (JIT) report.

Bilawal’s reaction

Soon after the grant of bail, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto thanked the judiciary for the relief provided to his father.

Speaking to the media outside the court where he was flanked by Sindh’s former chief minister Qaim Ali Shah and sister Aseefa, the PPP chairperson hinted at a nexus between the PTI government and NAB. “The government and NAB are mistaken if they think they could pressurise the PPP,” he said. “I want them to know that the poor people of the country prayed for Zardari’s release.”

Bilawal also criticised NAB for its failure to present in the court a response in a separate petition filed by his aunt Faryal Talpur.

He reiterated his prediction that Prime Minister Imran Khan who, according to him has “decimated the economy”, would not stay in power beyond this year. “I’m giving a political statement. I do not take instructions from anyone. The PTI government will be sent packing this year, and we will form a people-friendly government next year,” he claimed.

I respect Zerdari. Actually he earned it.

So the army and government is behind this

Absolutely. There is no other way these things happen. The judiciary in Pakistan is a joke, it's toothless and filled with the same people as the rest of Pakistan. How can we today suddenly believe that they took this decision all by themselves? Did we see a fight against this decision? By the government or the military? Just deflated comments here and there. They didn't even care enough to put up a show, at least. Every single country's power structure is built this way, even the US'. The "deep state" or the "establishment" (as it is called in Pakistan) controls it all. It is made up of the bureaucracy, elected officials, the rich sponsors of the elected officials, massive private corporations, the intelligence higher ups, the military higher ups, powerful mafias, you know, people with true power. Everything else, government, judiciary, military, think tanks, ISI, FIA, is just smoke and mirrors.

I still don't understand how people all across the world can still dream of somehow finding someone honest and free who has come to power through this system and because of this system. The only options left in today's age for change are that either the populace tears down the entire structure/system and then rebuilds it on saner principles (impossible for our society) or forces a single worthy man/woman and his/her team of non-politicos through the system to the top by conditionally throwing the entire weight of the people behind him/her and then keeping it that way for a few decades at least. There used to be another way where once in hundreds of years a man brilliant beyond his times would rise up from nowhere and then rip the system apart or completely defang it, a la Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The time for these messiahs has passed, today's systems have closed off all avenues for them. Too bad our people, being impotent and a part of the system themselves, are still sitting on their behinds awaiting the next Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

That they issue when you wait for someone else to do your job. I don't understand why the people dont rise up and ask this judiciary first. Make it into and example and the rest of the institutions will lose their fangs automatically.

Because we the people are made from the exact same 'mattee' that the people running these institutions are made of. Make no mistake, every single Pakistani, give or take, is as corrupt and immoral as Nawaz, Zardari, Imran and Musharraf. These men weren't imported from somewhere else. The only difference is the opportunity that we have been afforded.

It's a curse and I dont even know how and where to start to even come up with a solution, at this point.

Did GoP pay Dr. Asim the compensation to be on the medical board?

So Bhaari that no sound is coming from the camp who facilitated his glorious return to Sindh.
