The gov of Afghanistan in that was no angel, they were bad too. But we Afghans made a mistake of being decieved, taking arms and started fighting. We may have not fought if we had anticipated our situation today.

People were fed up with the royals, although Dawood was a president and declared presidential system(his only good work), but he was the continuation of his family, he was a pashtoon nationalist like zahir and others who had divided the country by favouring pashtoons over everybody else. people wanted change, Khalq and Parcham which had relations with the soviets staged a coup, killed Dawood and took power, couple of years later(or less), the soviets paved their way in afghanistan, the army didnt do much as it was in controll of Khalq party. This was a perfect time for the americans to take revenge from the soviets. they poured bilions and bilions of dollars plus tons of amunitions/arms to the mujahideen to fight the soviets, this was the birth of radical muslims thanks to americans and zia.

These same Pakistanis who are calling the Afghan taliban 'freedom fighters', call the Pakistani Taliban 'terrorists' although there's not much difference in the basic ideology of both these taliban types.

But then, like you rightly said, it's good only as long as one's own people are not dying.

brother, the thing is that these Pakistanis who support terrorist groups like the Taliban and the so called Afghan "jihad" of 1980's don't realize that millions of lives have been lost in the process of all these conflicts. God forbid that the situation in Pakistan gets worse but if TTP took over these same people would get a taste of their own medicine.

Afghan Taliban or TTP, they're both the same. A few months ago Mullah Fazlullah (Radio mullah of Swat valley) was killed in Afghanistan and this proves the cooperation of the AT and TTP.

Why dont you say the truth instead of using the term freedom fighters? The truth is that the Taliban in Afghanistan is considered an asset by Pakistan and the Taliban in Pakistan is enemy for them. Pakistan can only hope that AT be a force of good for pakistan in the future, although it is not gauranteed, the TTP and AT come from the same ideology group, from the same category of people and ethnic group, in the long run it may not be good for paksitan as the Taliban are not only religious extremists, but also ethnic nationalists.

Some people in my country still think that Afghan taliban are "good people". Maybe they should ask Swatis in our country who definitely got a taste of them. exactly dear mehru, this is the problem that some people dont realize it. what if the taliban get back to power and dont need to look to pakistan for help,will they be the same taliban as they are today? i dont think so.
