What's new

Z-10 Helicopter, China

we go for more and more cobras why because we guys no need change same like f-16

Well the upgraded Cobra's are a lot more efficient and cheaper than an unproven and unknown helicopter. Plus China hasn't even offered this for export to Pakistan. Don't confuse Chinese achievements with Pakistan's requirements, sometimes countries like the US France or Turkey provide the necessary tools.

Anyways I'd like to see China step up it's support for Pakistan on the international scene before we turn the Pakistan military into a complete Chinatown.

Although being nostalgic is a good thing, but as the world tries to improve their hardware and move on, are you still going to hold on to your cobra's?.

Also, if the Chinese offer you their Z-10s, are you going to say..."no no, we love our cobra's, but thanks anyways"?. :)

nice can we replace cobra with this one latter

the z10 seems heavier then the cobra.and the weaponry system seems to be same..i dont think we should replace it!im just saying!

All modern attack choppers are heavier than the original Cobra, even the new Cobra version (Super Cobra) has two engines instead of one in the original. The original Cobra is so light it can't carry the heavy weapons needed to destroy the most modern tanks. Armed with the HJ-10, the Chinese equivelant of the reknowned AGM-114 Hellfire, Z-10 is the ideal chopper to replace the PA's Cobras. Relatively cheap, no sanctions and just as heavily armed as its Western peers.

Is this chopper better than the single engine cobras we have.

Much better. Double capacity to carry weapons, fit for higher altitude terrains like in FATA. Good night fighting capability. Everything is good for us in this helicopter.

Z-10 continues to be plauged by engine issues as the canadian subsidiary of P&W has refused to supply further engines under pressure from the US. a chinese poweplant seems to be years away!

Correct Sir, but have read on many Chinese websites that one prototype has been flown with WZ-9 engine designed for it, though it does not matches to the 4 or 5 engines tested on other prototypes.

Z-10 helicopter has been designed just like Al Khalid, it can accommodate all the major engines of different make. Also rumors are there that it may feature on the 1st October Grand Parade of PLA.

If Z-10 can be fitted with the engines of Mi-17, i don't think Russia might object much as we are already using Mi-17s, but I do hope China must be pretty near to finalizing their own engine for it. As it is a must for them.

Do you information to add about a possibility that engines will be a problem for the Z10 - for instance, it has been notrd that P&W is unwilling to provide more engines, does China have a local engine it may be developing for this aircraft, or is it seeking assistance or even the entire engine, elsewhere - is there anything you can add to this ?

Well Sir, as per Chinese websites, WZ-9 turbo shaft engine has been developed for Z-10 but up til last rumors was not up to par with the other competitors mainly the P&W, Russian from Klimov (RD-93 manufacturer too) & one from Ukrainian manufacturer. Plus rumors that Ukraine or Russia may be helping the Chinese in developing their own engine. & as i said WZ-9 engine has already been tested on a Z-10 prototype. So the Chinese have already made an engine, perfecting it is required. But you never know China, they come out BANG with a final product. I am waiting eagerly for 1st October, to see if it is unveiled.

By the way China is already license producing the WZ-8A engine for the Z-9 series helicopters. WZ-8A is the Turbomeca Arriel-1C

And the z10 will (may) be equipped with two wz9 engines? Have you any information on the Ukrainian engine?
