Ok fair points; tis true that history is always written with a subtle bias at best and out right revisionism at the very worst ! As I've spent the last year or so reading as much about Jinnah as I can I feel that if people like Gokhale, Tilak and Naoroji had not died as soon as they did there wouldn't have been a partition of India because Jinnah cited all of them as having immense influence on him !

Ya Actually Jinnah was against Gandhi & Congress Supporting Khilafat Movement... He said to Gandhi how can we call ourself Secular when we support a Religious Movement... when he was Himself a prominent Congress member...

Similarly back ward cast was betrayed by Congress... it was Hindu Mahasabha which put pressure on Congress to Give reservation to backward Class... Gandhi called a Fast against it... but Ambhedkar Stood like a iron statue without budging in front of Gandhis emotional Blackmail ... finally Gandhi called of the fast once he understood the Mind of Ambhedkar cannot be changed like other Emotional idiots...

the Congress Top level at that time Consisted of Hindus & Muslims from Big & rich families ... there was no poor among them in the Top brass... thats where Congress Failed India & that is the Same Place where Muslim league Failed Pakistan ...

can u imagine, a Muslim state was Created by a man who eats Pork & dranks whisky while India was Ruled by a person Nehru who eat Beef & flirted with Women... what makes u understand that they where very secular indeed ...

But the argument or political difference made them choose different ways... one went for a Islamic Country & the Other went for a Secular country ... But both have failed the people... i really hate the Indian brand of secularism which treats Muslims as kids who has to be always taken care of... My secularist Indians dont agree with me ...

I dont want a Hindu India... i want a country which has Uniform civil code which treats all its citizens equally without any reservation based on Cast & religion... & Political use of minorities should be Stopped ... fight election on development issue of the whole Country not for the development of a State or a particular Community ....

Good points ! I have a slightly different opinion on what Jinnah wanted ! As I have understood him to be he went from being a staunch supporter of Indian Nationalism to Muslim Nationalism; he went from being an avid secularist to something else ! I wouldn't exactly call him an Islamist and I do know for a fact that he wasn't indulgent in pork or alcohol later in his life (even if he were earlier on...though such a claim is not found in most of the work done on him by Pakistanis and some of the earlier historians) but I'd still not call him an Islamist ! I think that he was later on quite washed away by 'Iqbal' and both his Pan-Islamism and the role of the Parliament in religious reformation of the Muslim Philosophical Thought and he (Jinnah) makes that quite clear when he talks about how 'his (Iqbal's) thoughts were in complete consonance with my own and I had arrived at the same conclusions as he did' ! And so I think that Jinnah's Pakistan was neither a Secular Pakistan nor an Islamist Pakistan but a pluralistic, impartial and democratic Pakistan where everyone would have the right to express themselves even if it means tabling a resolution in the Parliament which bears a religious connotation; hence why he directed the State Bank on Pakistan's inauguration to come up with a system of economics that is 'Islamic' and why he talked about 'Social Justice and Islamic Socialism' in his Dhaka Broadcast of '48 ! At the same time religious impartiality would ensure that someone as highly thought of as Justice Cornelius or Justice Dorab Patel or the recently retired Justice Rana Bhagwandas could and should become the President of the State of Pakistan ! Unfortunately we, in Pakistan, I believe, have tremendously failed Jinnah and have created a Bigoted State of haves and have-nots ! I can't, for obvious reasons, speak for your country but I do sincerely believe that had Mr.Gandhi (and I do beg forgiveness from any Indian who'd disagree with me) stayed in South Africa and not come to India and assumed a de-facto control over the Indian National Congress - We'd still be One Country from the Barren Deserts of Balochistan to the Swampy Creeks of Bangladesh !

But as they say - Jo kuch hota hai achee ke liye hota hai and so there is no reason why we can't be, as Jinnah said : Like Canada and the United States ! Friends !

He was Secular But his Idea of a Islamic State has Failed ...Since what he thought was a State which would have a Muslim Majority State but secular in Nature with Subcontinent Type Islam ... But Now Pakistan has become Pakistan ka Matlab haii La ilaha ill Allah which was not his Idea...

Along with making invaders the Hero & calling Arabs the real mentors of the Country how can a Sindhi& Punjabi have cultural similarity which Arabs...

u made a Muslim warrior out of Iqbal who was intially a patriotic India... just imagine how can a person who first writes Sare Jaha se Achha Hindustan Humara can change his attitude towards the same land ... it was due to political difference nothing else...

Iqbal was the same person who said he Got his inspiration from the works of Jagatguru Adi Shanakacharya ...

Muslim league failed u, Cozz every Top leader where Rich High class Muslims ... poor where not represented ...
Similarly in India Congress Consisted of Leaders of High Class rich Hindus .... poor where not represented...

But have Failed there states respectively... Jinnah has failed Cause he Himself knew he or Iqbal cant Single handedly Make & run a country... he never Choose a Political Hire after him on whom people can believe & can be Followed... due to his this lack of Foresightedness Pakistan is Suffering...
