since his only daughter didnt choose the career path in politics or get any media exposure to this day, I d say Xi is not the cling-to-power type of leader that some people make him out to be.

a very unpopular opinion that I hold is that CCP at the very top is still collective ruling, with Xi only being the front man
This is what I suspect as well. Studying the History of the USSR it is unlikily the CCP will repeat the mistakes of letting old people stay in the office for too long without letting younger leaders have experience like what the USSR did.

Lee Kuan Yew was Singapore PM from 1959 to 1990 = 31 years
Dr. Mahathir of Malaysia was PM of Malaysia for a total of 24 years.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in office from 2005 to present = 16 years.

A quality Mercedes Benz car can be driven for more than 20 years, and a Nissan lasted 10 years. Same for world leaders who contribute much to their countries.

Xi Jing Ping should have no problem of staying for third term if the Chinese people wished. However, he shall not be in office for life because health problems the come with old age can cause people making mistakes, like Sleeping Joe.

Can't happen. Han is Jiang's man.

Don't trust Taiwan's political entertainment programs, those are some political novel compiled by the screenwriter, their loopholes appeared one after another. For example, although Han Zheng comes from the Shanghai official group, he is certainly not Jiang Zemin's person. In 1995, Han Zheng and Meng Jianzhu became members of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai municipal Party committee at the same time. However, Meng Jianzhu became the Minister of public security in 2008 and even the Secretary of the political and legal committee after 2012, second only to Top7. Meng Jianzhu is the normal promotion speed of Jiang Zemin's Shanghai official group. But Han Zheng worked as a deputy in Shanghai for 17 years from 1995 to 2012. Four terms without promotion! Is this Jiang Zemin's person? It was not until Hu Jingtao visited Shanghai in 2012 that Han Zheng became Secretary of the Shanghai municipal Party committee.

I heard some internal power tussle going on. Xi has not been outside china for around two years, what does that hint ?

You may not understand. Unlike other parties, CCP encourages factional competition within the party. Mao Zedong once said: if there is only one political party in China, it is wrong emperor thought. If there is no faction within the CCP, it will lead to the demise of the CCP(党外无党,帝王思想。党内无派,千奇百怪).

Don't worry, the Chinese are a nation that pursues history, and it likes to sum up experience and lessons through history.
CCP's lessons from the demise of the Soviet Union are as follows:
1. Brezhnev's cadre lifetime system.
2. The practice of overthrowing and liquidating the policies of former leaders by the current leaders of the Soviet Union.
3. Overthrowing Xie Lieping and the Communist Youth League led to the lack of qualified ideological successors in Soviet Union.
4. ……

It used to be, frankly speaking, I don't like Han Zheng very much. He has insufficient grassroots work experience and has the same problems as Li, and Shanghai has a bourgeois comprador tradition.

However, the current division of work is arranged according to the prime minister's successor.

From the 1990s to 2017, Han Zheng has been presiding over economic development in Shanghai, Shanghai's economy has developed fastest during this period. Han Zheng has sufficient local work experience and excellent ruling achievements, and the real lack of local governance experience is Wang Huning.
Wang Huning has been studying the national strategy in the central government since 1995, and is the top adviser to the three generation of leaders of the Jiang Zemin, Hu Jingtao and Xi Jinping. He has made outstanding achievements in the layout of China's International Geopolitics, but he lacks sufficient local governance experience.
According to Chinese political tradition, people who have not served as local officials are not allowed to serve as top officials(不历州县,不拟台省). In fact, Wang Huning is not qualified to become the top 7, but his achievements in international geo strategy are too excellent, so Wang Huning made an exception to become the top 7 in 2017. However, Wang Huning, who lacks the curriculum vitae of local officials, can at most become the chairman of the CPPCC and cannot hold a higher position.

Modi too did not travel outside India for almost 2 years due to COVID-19.
Modi went to US recently, what did happen to Xi?
Xi is person-non-grata now.

Good for him then, let see how long he can stick to power.

as long as the internal competition remains to be a secret. Any member who reveals it will be charged with the crime of "leaking party secret". Keeping party secrets is one of the oaths you guys have to take when you swore in.

So, does CCP really encourage factional competition? I seriously doubt it. CCP works a bit like mafia family shown in movie "Godfather". I don't think Godfather encourages factional competition. When it appears, he would eliminate swiftly and quietly.

Xi Jinping's last visit was to Burma in 2020. After China promulgated the decree of 14 days of immigration and quarantine, Xi Jinping did not go abroad again, mainly because Xi Jinping's work could not be quarantine 14 days.

Mencius once told us: competition and difficulties make you prosperous, safety and comfort make you perish(生于忧患,死于安乐).
Any country, nation or political party needs competitors, otherwise it will perish like the Indians of the American continent.
CCP has never stopped factional struggle from the moment it was born. For example, the struggle between the Comintern faction Wang Ming&Bogu and the local faction Mao Zedong&Zhu De. This is not a secret, but history written into history textbooks.
After 1949, Communist countries demanded the dictatorship of the proletariat and established a one party state. Except CCP, other parties are opposition parties that can only conduct political consultation. If CCP prohibits inner-party competition, CCP will perish.

Of course, no political party is ever free of fractional struggle. CCP is no exception. But it doesn't mean CCP welcomes it, or even embraces it. It is just inevitable. You sound like CCP actually wants it to enhance its own strength. That is simply not true. If you are really a CCP member, you should have known its history, which is filled with swift and ruthless cleansing of those losers in its factional struggles. It has never considered the minority opposition to be an integral part of the party.

PS. I begin to doubt that you are really a CCP member. For CCP, the unity of the party trumps everything else. That is one of the reasons why it holds on to the power so well. Factional struggle is the archenemy of party unity.

What did you want? He is 68 now.

Ailing leaders are always visible by the amount of lieutenants circling around them.
In the last few years, he has aged a lot. Just a few years back he looked much healthier. People vote here and the whole western press says that his 3rd term is like a done deal. I mean it's not necessarily true looking at Xi and if he has the power for next year's struggle and then again for 5-6 six more being the supreme leader.
