2018 elections will likely be NS's last. If he wins, he'll likely be more assertive, because he'll have nothing to political lose; if he loses the elections, well, it doesn't really matter.
N-league is unlikely to win the 2018 elections; PTI is going to win.
What is your opinion on proportional representation system :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_representation
I think the major flaw in your whole system is the Winner Takes All (WTA) electoral system that allows a party with just 30% votes to clinch absolute majority. There is no proportionality here and is clearly unfair. It also hampers checks and balances to autocratic single party rule by disenfranchising the opposition.
Just imagine what a 2/3 majority ruling party may want to do with the opposition , constitution or even the army. And gaining 2/3 is no problem in WTA system. Hasina's Bangladesh should be a warning lesson for Pakistan.
And it does not matter whether its PML-N or PTI. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
What has winning an election got to do with having power over military! What kind of power did he get by winning the last election and what would change in 2018?
Civilian dominance over army takes time. Astute civilian leaders can bring army under control over a period of 10-15 years with proper planning. Eg. Turkey. Unprecedented political incidents can also lead to sudden overnight civilian dominance over army Eg. Falklands war and Argentina , Indoneshia in 1998. With successive election people tend to favor status quo of having civilian leaders and stability over military coup. That's not something necessarily bad . Eg- Countries like Egypt desperately need civilian dominance over a corrupt, unaccountable and ruthless army.
Opposition wont let him breath...!
Specially Imran Khan he don't even allowing Nawaz to complete it current tenure.!
And that is wrong IMO. The guy was elected legally under pakistan constitution and should be allowed to complete his term. This leg pulling only forments animosity among different political factions and that's not good for stability of a nation.
If a elected leader has to constantly look out for enemies to his legal rule then how can he concentrate on formulating development and governance policies? Rather Imran Khan should push for electoral reforms rather than openly threatening overthrow of ruling party.
I doubt it if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be running for the premiership position in 2018. Most likely his brother, Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif, will campaign for the top job.
Does not change the possibility of 1 party dictatorship over long term. PML-N has overwhelming dominance over pak largest province and add to that continuous federal rule. With PAK flawed electoral system and typical subcontinental state institutions - that's a recipe for disaster.
