SUPARCO is tasked with creating these atomic dandas in order to keep a certain cow-hugging nation in its place. And, it has accomplishes this feat with great distinction.

I remember vividly that PSK quoted 1 m increase in length over 0.5m initial picture posted above for accommodating more avionics LRUs and also to ensure the modifications reqd for enlarged air-intake ductings to cater for increased airflow for the higher thrust F414-IN56 turbofan have left very little room for additional internal fuel tanks.. This implied an external CFT to the tune of 1200L to accommodate increase in combat radius. All this he said post Aero India 2011.
He had also said at that time about 99 F414-GE-INS6 turbofans have been ordered, while retaining the option to acquire 49 more.

Now 0.5m increase in fuselage seems a bit under length for me.

404 Dry 0.826 Afterburner 1.775

As you see the dry thrust is an improvement but afterburner consumption is similar. Thus, without a the bigger 1200L CFTs, MK2 performance wont increase much in terms of range but yes there would be at least 15%+ improvement in MTOW.

Gentlemen in simple english

a) Increase in fuselage means more power : weight ratio, Mach number increases do your math.
b) Centre of Gravity needs to be Calibrated once again, this means Back to Wind-Tunnel
c) Be Happy - More Electricity means AESA power Hungry monster will come in easy
d) Increase in Drag
e) Cowlings need to be re-designed as New engine will need more O2
F) Landing Gear needs to be seated again, weight centres need to be calculated.
g) This means Fuel pipe needs to be extended, this means fuel pumps need to be tested again....
h) Wiring for All avionics needs to be checked again.
i) This means Quatraplex FBW system goes for Toss and needs to be Tested once again for increased Hydraulics....

or simple language Pain in Arse....

But Gain will be massive, you are recreating a New Bird.

in short with just 50-55Cm increase HAL is projecting MK2s entry in 2021 no wonder PMO & MOD have already started looking for "other platforms" as i said many times earlier apart from a couple of naval variants LCA MK1a will be the last of LCA series :coffee:

It is difficult to understand what the alternatives could be. It is also difficult to understand which rational set of human beings will throw away such massive progress that has been made for the sake of some kickbacks and bribes. If the PMO and MOD are really thinking of other platforms for this reason, they need to be tried and shot.

It was not the smallest jet made in 22 years, it was an entire industry created. Nothing before, other than the HF24, had been built from the ground up, and that was built thanks to the genius Kurt Tank, who was also the designer of the legendary FW190, as well as the Kondor. For from the ground up planning, the Tejas laid the foundations, and it is a permanent creation of infrastructure.

Light weight, manoeuvrability, the ability to operate off under-prepared or unprepared landing sites.

Just on a point of information - there was nothing about the Tejas project, formerly the LCA project, that was Pakistan specific. In about 300 meetings on the project that I have attended personally, the word Pakistan was not mentioned once.

If it take 5-10 years to create MKII, I'm giving designer and developers some leeway here... How will this plan affect AMCA development?

Also, why is there a need to lengthen the plane?

I don't understand if this isn't mediocrity what is? With whole world happy to help and all the capital to utilise India cannot come up with one good fighter or drone and then they say they are suppa power! Wow![

Just read #16. The bugger just blew me away.

About the AMCA, it will have to move in parallel. We will get killed if we can't expand our design capability to handle two or three projects simultaneously. The Dhruv needs a follow-on as well, for instance, and there are other mission definitions waiting in the wings.

well the reason why it lengthened is because it can accomidate the ge-f414. seeing the differance between the mk1 and the mk1a its a good upgrade.but im not sure why it needs to take 6 years to lenghten the jet. also i thought the mk2 will be extended by 1 meter !?
