Pew research is based on perceptions and not on reality. For Indian, Japan and Latin America it is US, and for other parts of the world it is China. What I am saying is there is nothing wrong and right on how you perceive things.

China is a world big power. The power is keep growing. I think the biggest reason many countries and world leaders look up for China is because....
1. China is world second biggest economy, and have a lot of money that bring interest to many countries. Yup, money rules! Everyone is materialistic! Lol
2. China development model became the role model of many countries around the world. Everyone want to get rich too... so materialistic! Ckckckc
3. China will became world biggest economy in the world, and perhaps will be followed with military and technology too. Which is no one dare enough to make a mess with China.
4. China seen as the only country able to balance out USA, and many country put hope on China, in fear of being bullied by USA randomly.
And India hardly willingly to recognize China as world power because there is a rivaly mentally in many Indian minds toward China. This kind of mentally is not just between country, but also individual, even between businessman in SE Asia too.
It's very hard to admit that China is better than India. It's an insult for Indian receive direct order from China, even rejecting anything that came from China. And it is a shameful if don't have gut to make a problem with China.
The angriest and unacceptable part is... perhaps, India will never able to catch up China.

The Indians are stuck in their delusions of democracy and freedom. The economy is failing, well at least they are free. Women are being raped, they are free. Promises are broken, they are free. After each failure, they are always free. Free to blame someone else, free to fail agin.
They pity the Chinese slaves who do nothing but copy and paste, cannot elect 1 trillion presidents every 4 years, must go to work everyday to pay their bills. They put China back to their place by camping their troops inside China's border for a couple of months.

India is the next super power right after the US (if it is not already). Period!

India is a divided country. High caste vs lower caste.
High caste people never saw or care a lower caste people, like they never exist. Yes, high caste people are achieving great things. But the problem is the whole world saw India as a whole, including those lower caste people that the number is huge and keep growing.
That's what tainted the whole India image.
Indonesia has lower favor toward China is because of there's a huge fight between Islamic (Pro Arab + USA) vs nationalist (that assumed to be supported by Chinese Indonesian businessman especially).
Indonesia is slowly transformed the country toward Afghanistan kind of country. The local politicians are getting more vocal everyday, and use the Chinese Indonesian that affiliated with Commie (aka China) as a scapegoat that preventing poor people to became wealthy, and preventing the country to became an Islamic country.
For many Indonesian, to be an Islamic country is a noble thing and the only way too to became a developed country.
