World Media and Hysteria Over Pakistan's Collapse

We just closed a thread on the 'disintegration of Pakistan's by an Indian author, penned in the aftermath of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, when the Taliban were on the rise and actually physically controlled large swathes of territory in FATA and Swat.

None of those predictions came true.

Now, yet again, we have another article predicting the demise of Pakistan, this time in the aftermath of the assassination of Salman Taseer, and yet again broad liberties are taken in predicting the 'demise of Pakistan'. There is a whole cottage industry built on bashing Pakistan and predictions its demise.

The tone of this article rather than Pakistan bashing is more in line with fore warning the American state.. "they should prepare themselves..just in case " ..yes it does paint a gloomy picture but none that is not true.

Close this thread too ..
for some one disintegration of nation means change in maps but for people of that nation its their life, their culture actually every thing...
May be Stephen Cohen don't understand what it mean when you have to leave every thing including life time of saving and your house and your village and go to other unknown part to live rest of life....

Why any one wants to break the nation ..rather support its integrity and help it to grow...

It should be taken for granted that Pakistan will NOT disintegrate without an external force.

US has too much at stake currently, they will be in even more trouble if Pakistan disintegrates. The force won't come from US. Afghanistan even if it wishes does not have the power to do it. China is strategic partner, they won't exert this force either. KSA is kind of neutral and do not have any palpable benefits from this disintegration.

Only India has the ability & has numerous benefits from this disintegration. But she hasn't shown any signs yet that she is interested in doing this. The logical conclusion is - Pakistan won't disintegrate unless US starts working in that direction.

I feel the threat of Pakistan, is much greater now, then it was following Bhutto assassination.

Threat is not from America, but from the talibans. Sooner a stronger leader of Pakistan can emerge, the quicker you can tackle them.

Mate TTP was much stronger around 2008 than it is today. Today it has practically been beaten around like there's no tomorrow. SW, Swat, Orakzai, Bajaur, etc. They're able to carry out suicide attacks, yes, but they're aren't a serious threat to Pakistani state.

How will India benefit from a disintegration of Pakistan then having bragging rights? Look how a hostile neighbour, turned Pakistan around.

I would like a slow but peaceful rising Pakistan, then a disintegrated one.

How is the threat from the Taliban far greater now than when Bhutto was assassinated, given that the Taliban are much weaker now, and essentially have control of only one Tribal agency, NW, unlike in 2008 when they physically controlled large parts of FATA and Swat?

Furthermore, NW is controlled by Haqqanis, who are not threatening the Pakistani state. Hence as far as any threat to the Pakistani state is concerned, NW is not a serious issue at this point. It was TTP that was doing that, and they don't control any substantial areas anymore.

BTW, as expected, the MQM is back in the coalition, and even Sharifs backtracked on his 'ultimatum' and said he wanted the GOP to finish its term.
