That actress named "景甜" is not welcomed in China, she is some boss's girl, not a famous actress in China. Why U.S Hollywood need find some low-level Chinese actress to join their movie ?

1. Now Hollywood focus on Chinese market, there need some Chinese actress/actor in movie to attract Chinese film audiences.

2. Hollywood want Chinese capital to invest their U.S movie, they can accept some BOSS's girl appear on it, even low-level performance. No doubt Hollywood is kissing Chinese capital @ss, no bottom line !

Chinese films are well known in art house, having won almost all category at Cannes, Berlin and Venice Films. You just don't know them. Jia Zhangke? A Touch of Sin. Zhang's To Live, Not One Less, Red Shorghum, Wong's In the Mood for Love, Happy Together, 2046. Tuya's Marriage, Black Coal Thin Ice. Just to name a few.

Hmm, the trailer seems interesting, too bad I can't watch it in my local Cinema.

Hey they could make Rambo movies every week and for all we know they all could make $800M domestically. I'm not going to rule out anything. Remember the Chinese and American markets can have different tastes. Force Awakens makes over $900M in the US and over another $1 Billion overseas but only about $100M in China. Meanwhile Fate and the Furious makes only $225M in the US but $1 Billion overseas with $392M in China. Some Chinese company can easily stumble upon a Game of Thrones type hit (just not "The Wall") and make Billions.

Well true, whatever movie they want to make is their business, Hollywood and China are running on 2 different road in term of Movie Production, I don't ever see the two of them cross path, in fact, the market for Chinese Movie overseas is quite small, and Chinese movie tend to perform in a B-Movie level in the US or Australia. Like I said again, if they think this is the way to surpass the Hollywood, then they should do it, because I don't think Hollywood is worry about movie like this to begin with.

I don't think Game of Throne would be a good movie, because the story would have be too long to condense into 2 or even 3 hours long....

Chinese online novels have many overseas fans. I think this is a good sign for Chinese movies/dramas to become internationally popular. Good stories and good actors/actresses are the two most crucial factors for movie industry. China has countless good actors/actresses(Personally speaking, the most good-looking people among all Mongolian races are in China). Compared with Hollywood, what China movie industry lacks is good story and the skill about how to tell the story.

As I said, things are getting better. I'm not so pessimistic as you are. Culture barrier is not so big as you think. Actually I don't even think there is a culture barrier between Chinese and non-Chinese. People are basically common in the way of thinking. The only barrier is the language. We are living in an English dominating world. Which is a big advantage for Hollywood and disadvantage for Chinese movies.

You want to know the best selling Chinese book in the west is?? It's Sun Tzu's Art of War.

Other than that, the most popular group of people following Chinese Culture is Overseas Chinese. Whether or not they were born in China or born locally. Other than that, not too many Westerner can understand what exactly is Chinese Culture.

I would say Chinese Movie and Drama is still not in a place where they can be seen as "popular" internationally, and this movie is not really a good sign to show what Chinese Culture and Art is all about. Unless you are saying Chinese Movie is about a gun toting dude waving a Chinese Flag kill a lot of white folks and color folks, otherwise there are no way you can say this movie in anyway help raise the Chinese standing internationally.

The problem with Chinese actor is that they are not famous, and actor don't need to act good to be famous, and many actors in Hollywood was not considered to have good acting. When an actor is not famous, it does not matter how good he or she is, he won't be noticed, and that would mean they will ended up doing shitty movie for the rest of his/her life, and I don't think Chinese Actor would do what Hollywood Actor to get famous.

The disadvantage of Chinese Cinema is that the Chinese Producer did not want to do explore the so called "4th Dimension" in film, and stay with the traditional recipe, and that probably because of the Chinese Government controlling the movie business in China, which would be blamed for lack of imagination.

No, like the Westerns serials that played in theaters every week or so before TV was popular and had perpetual cliffhangars at the end to get you to come back.

But wouldn't that will become TV series? Well, either a Mini-Series or TV special?

Didn't it sort of defeat the point of making it into a movie??

Not much of a difference...because well...many people in Mexico have ancestors from Spain.

Well, what he is saying is "Chicano" which is the term Mexican called Mexican American. Mexican American is generally white to begin with, but there are exception. I would be called a Chicano if I was in Northern Mexico (Mexican-American Border) because by definition, I am of mixed Mexican race, (Mexican-Chinese American) and that's their definition. However, I am not considered as a Chicano in Middle or Southern part (where most Aztec people reside) because for them, Chicano have to be Mexican and White (Anglo-Iberia) because they accept African-Mexican as indigenous as the same status as Mexican Indian

Mexican itself is a different story, majority of Mexican is white, the last census in 2016 stated 73 millions of 120 millions Mexican identify themselves as white. So the prospect of Mexican discriminating Mexican American is kind of a moot point, because they all getting whiter. By the way, only 10% of Mexican identify themselves as Black or African descent, the other is mixed or other race.

It is good movies/dramas that make actors/actresses famous. Don't make logical mistakes.

As I said, China owns all necessary factors to become an international cultural manufacture center. Good looking stars, good writers and good investors. You will witness Chinese movie industry rise.

You and your nonsense again. Beside Hollywood, which film production country provide the same level of international recognition? Truth of the matter is Hollywood dominated the film industry. A lot of it comes down to big budget, being from a rich country, from an English speaking country with a white face certainly help. So none of your 4th dimension crap LOL.

Do you even know what "4th Dimension" means in the industry?

"4th Dimension" came from a TV term "Breaking the 4th Wall" which mean when a TV Character directly talk to the audience either facing the camera or indirectly by communicating with the audience (either by read back or flashback scene)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of the most famous breaking the 4th wall movie there are. They intensively make use of the character Bueller (Matthew Broderick) constantly explaining his scheme to the audience on how he is going to pull out one major act of truant. That draw the audience into the film.

4th Dimension is different than Breaking the 4th Wall, because you don't break the 4th Wall and you don't communicate with the audience directly or indirectly. You identify your story toward your audience, dissect your story and let the audience walk into the 4th Dimension.

There are many big budget film in Hollywood that fail to draw attention and flop, and when I said A lot, I mean A LOT. Big Budget does not equate to success In the industry "4th Dimension" mean you need to use your film to communicate with the audience, a successful film need to speak to the audience, the audience feel like they are part of the story.

And for a film to success, they need to draw people who know nothing about your movie to watch your movie, either they have a story that can identify themselves with the character, that's hard when there exist a cultural different. Or they have a commonly well known story. There are many British Film (Harry Potter, for one) succeed beyond imagination, that's because we can all look at Daniel Redcliff and think we are the wizard and that is our journey. Same deals goes to other foreign film, English Speaking or Non-English Speaking. Some Non-English Speaking film set so well that Hollywood production decided to copy them directly, movie like The Departed (Copy from Inferno Affair from Hong Kong) The Ring/The Grudge (Copy from Japanese Movie The ring) Hunger Game (Copy from Japanese Movie Battle Royale) The Bridge (Copy from Swedish/Danish TV series Bron) The Killing (Copy from Danish Crime TV thriller Forbrydelsen ) The list goes on.

So, for Wolf Warrior, how people outside China is going to digest a story about a Chinese Hero Waving the Chinese Flag and kill a lot of people on the way? How audience outside China could possibly walk into the story? Not all of them are flag waving Chinese Patriot you know. It's stupid to say Hollywood success is due to English Speaking and White Face, dude, that's almost 1/3 of the world cover. Canada, UK, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Finland, The Baltics, Russia, Hungary, North Africa etc. These country all developed and hence have money and all majority are white people, why their movie is not a success and dominating the world market?

Man you guys are funny, you guys obviously do not know what I said yet I am still wrong in your mind because, well, I said it. That's really funny you know that? T

I don't know much about Chinese movies but I have watched movie Yip man and enjoyed it alot. All three parts are beautifully directed, scripted and acted.I am huge fan of both the Chinese and Japanese culture and enjoy sophisticated comparison of "Art of war" b/w the two. These kind of movies are more attractive to me instead of bollywood where Pakistanis are painted as unfriendly people, Pakistani cinema industries that mostly show off Talibans as main culprit of chaos and anarchy or Hollywood movies where muslims are just either terrorists or inferior race individuals with no sense of science and are deserters.I know that the truth is far different from movies and under these ideas the Chinese have lots of potential to introduce the concept of competition, culture and typical rivalry but in different tone.

Hey...We are living in our own Truman Show. I know it and I break the 4th wall regularly to give the audience my take on what goes on in this world.

It's stupid to say Hollywood success is due to English Speaking and White Face,...
It is a cheap excuse and a stale one.

I do not watch a lot of movies. Name 10 movies and 9 I have not seen. Believe it or not, I have never seen ET.

But I have seen enough of Chinese and Japanese movies. I saw Wolf Warriors 1 and I though it was mediocre at best. You are correct. Any story turned into a movie has the highest potential to bomb across a wide range of audience precisely because the storytelling is unrelatable by particular audiences.

No, these guys do not 'get it'.

"International" to some means the west, or particularly the Anglo nations. However entry and growth into other markets in the rest of the world is far more important and "international".

Actually, I think the Chinese Producer on Wolf Warrior 2 failed to capitalize the potential of the movie, it could have earn more, if they had not release the movie this soon, they should have release it in a day where patriotic sentiment run high, days such as China finally decided to take military action on India or the October 1 National day. That is if they wanted it to related to the Flag Waving Chinese who enjoy this movie. Think about the week long holiday during October 1 as oppose to Late July (which is near the Arm Force day) which do not have a long holiday to follow

In the end, there are no other relation this movie can enjoy a box office success, it wasn't particular good nor the star is particular famous, the only way to sell this movie is to sold that to the Flag Waving Chinese, and I think they "failed" to do that in some sense?
