With Hurriyat invite, Pakistan challenges India’s ‘red lines’

.
Well..roles have reversed. Looks like Pakistan is desperate to avoid talks this time around...& India on the other hand is doing all it can to see that talks go ahead. There is a reason why India doesn't want to let this opportunity go by...& for the exact same reason why Pakistan would love to stay away from India on this particular occasion.

In this August 14, 2015 photo, Pakistan envoy to India Abdul Basit and his wife cut a cake to celebrate the country's Independence Day in New Delhi.

Hurriyat leaders Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani have been invited for a reception at the Pakistan High Commission during the stay of the country's NSA Sartaj Aziz in New Delhi.
In a move that could upset the talks between National Security Advisors scheduled for August 23, 2015 the Pakistan High Commission has invited leaders of the Hurriyat to meet with Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz during his stay in Delhi. Sources confirmed that invitations have gone to key leaders of the Hurriyat, including chairperson Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani for a reception hosted by the High Commission.

In August 2014, India had called off scheduled talks between Foreign Secretaries in Islamabad over the Pakistan High Commissioner's meeting with Hurriyat leaders in Delhi, pointing to “new red lines” in engagement. “This is a red line we have drawn,” the MEA spokesperson had explained at the time, “We have told Pakistan — you either talk to us, or to them (Kashmiri separatists).” In an interview to The Hindu, in September 2014, Mr. Aziz had admitted that the “timing of the Hurriyat talks” could have been better. It remains to be seen whether the reaction from the government this year will be similar, given that Mr. Aziz is expected to meet the Hurriyat leaders at the reception after, and not before his scheduled talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.

However the invitation to the Hurriyat will also be seen in the context of a series of developments many inside the government sees as “provocations” from Pakistan ahead of the talks. Indian Army officials accused Pakistani troops of firing on border posts in Jammu and Poonch on Tuesday, the 10 consecutive day of ceasefire violations. In an alarming escalation of the firing, 120mm mortar shells have also reportedly been used in the firing that left six civilians dead on Independence Day last Saturday. Terrorist attacks in Gurdaspur and Udhampur last month are also being seen as an attempt to ratchet up tensions between the two countries.

The violence is accompanied by a visible raise in Pakistan’s public statements on Jammu and Kashmir over the past few months. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif came under severe criticism from opposition parties after the Ufa statement between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi excluded the reference of Jammu and Kashmir.

In Srinagar, separatist Hurriyat leaders had also marked their annoyance with the exclusion by largely boycotting the Pakistan High Commission’s Eid Milan function in July. Since then Mr. Aziz has been on the forefront, insisting that “no dialogue with India” was possible “sans Kashmir”. Pakistan also declined to invite the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly speaker to a Commonwealth Parliamentary Union conference saying that the State was “disputed”, leading India to entirely cancel its attendance in protest. And in a marked departure from the past, Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit gave a fiery speech at the mission’s Independence Day celebrations, claiming, “No matter how much more time their legitimate struggle takes, Pakistan will never abandon Kashmiris and their cause.”

The latest invitation to the Hurriyat will be seen as a reaffirmation that Pakistan wants to include the Kashmir resolution issue in NSA talks that are at present only mandated to discuss “all forms of terrorism.” In the past, visiting dignitaries from President Pervez Musharraf to Foreign Ministers and Foreign Secretaries have always met the Hurriyat leadership when they come to Delhi. In September 2013, Mr. Aziz had also met them during his visit for a conference, a move then Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed had termed “insensitive” and “counterproductive”.

Pakistan invites separatists for meeting 'to irritate India': Indian analyst

SRINAGAR: Pakistan invited separatists from India-held Kashmir for a meeting in a move that risks further straining efforts to restart a peace dialogue ahead of a rare meeting between top security officials from the nuclear-armed nations.

India called off peace talks with Pakistan a year ago after its neighbour consulted the separatists before a meeting between their foreign secretaries.

At the time, India accused Pakistan of interfering in its domestic affairs.

Hardline Kashmiri separatist, Syed Ali Shah Geelani is among the leaders invited to the Pakistan High Commission on August 23, the day talks between the security officials are due to start, Ayaz Akbar, a spokesman for the separatists, said.

"This is deliberate attempt to irritate India," said S. Chandrasekharan, director of the South Asia Analysis Group in New Delhi.

Manzoor Ali Memon, a spokesman for the Pakistani embassy, confirmed the invitation and declined to comment further.

Earlier Indian governments had grudgingly tolerated meetings between Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists, but Modi, elected last year, signalled he would not.

Majority-Hindu India and Muslim Pakistan, both claim Kashmir region in full but rule in part.

Modi has taken a tougher approach to Pakistan and clashes on the disputed border have intensified.

Indian and Pakistani troops traded gunfire and mortar rounds along their frontier earlier this week, killing eight people.

Hopes for warmer ties rose last month when Modi and his Pakistani counterpart, Prime minister Nawaz Sharif, met on the sidelines of a summit in Russia and agreed that their national security advisers would hold talks.

A spokesman for India's Ministry of External Affairs did not respond to requests for comment

Indian never wanted talks

Can you answer if india is sincere than why they suspend talks evety time more than dozen time they did

Did pak ever suspended talks never

So who is sincere

If your answer is pak terrorist attacks or bomb goes of we suspend talks

How many times RAW did same to pak recently shuja khanzada death was planned by RAW but did we suspended talks no

The talks have failed even before they started.

You are underestimating what is about to happen during NsA level talks .

Firstly It's a Pakistan initiative to hold NSA level talks . Now Pakistan can't back track from this. Either India can as India will be seen as a stumbling block in peace between the two .

All the time what Pakistan did was to ask India for proof of its Involvement in terrorism against India . But PA cleverly escalates tension so India will call off the talks in government to government level .

That's why we see these kind of ceasefire violation by ur country . Because India already choked out water tight case against you for NsA level talks . 1) Our first proof will will be recent attack by terrorist's during which 1 terrorist was caught . What we have done ? We undertook nARCO test on Kasab 2 which is now legally valid . He exposed very detailed information about terror camps in Pakistan .

This is just 1 in total 5 terror attacks which nails ISI and PA involved.

2) How did pakistani terrorist out of jail and why did pakistani government dint protest and file a case to deny his bail ? As Lakvi proof is not only concerned about India 26/11 goes into many boundaries and govts of the world .US Israel India etc .

3) Why and how Hafiz Saeed is roaming free and multiplying his properties inside Pakistan when uN resolution are against it ? India will provide his recent aactivities and his continues involvement in terrorism.

4) India has gathered proof of another UN banned terrorist Dawwod 4 address in islamabad to Karachi . And his activities and investments in Pakistan will also produced . All his address are ISI safe houses where most of their official business of ISI PA takes place ..

5) There are around 54+ UN banned terrorist roaming freely and charting future attacks on India India and India and and Afghanistan .

These are some info leaked to media . There are lots more detailed proof and information with India which will will be shared with Pakistan NSA and other world leaders in private ... now Pakistan either have to act against terrorists in P OK or term itself as an aggressor for problem between both countries . Once you you get exposed India will move resolution for economic sanctions against terror sponsoring states . And India will get more global support if we decided to declare war in the name of Anti terrorism operation inside Pakistan occupied Kashmir !!!

That's the reason Pakistan army trying hard to call off NSA level talks ... But India knew this could happen and hence we restrain to further provoke cease fire violations. INDIA WANT CALL OFF NSA LEVEL TALKS ... It's a check mate for Pakistan endless proxy war ... This was discussed in details with Crown prince who have supported Indias move to expose Pakistan support India move at the UN resolution to inflict Sanctions on terror sponsoring countries !!!!
Again, even assuming all the allegations above are valid, how does the 'NSA meeting expose Pakistan' when all these claims could be announced by the government at any point in time?

And the Bhartis will be crying right and left, just give them more excuses to not hold bilateral talks with made up reasons. Well done Pakistan, talk to all Kashmiri leaders and don't bother about these cry babies. In any case they are really not interested in developing a friendly relationship with us, fools and their shenanigans.

OMG, you mean RAW controls TTP and can take out any top level Pakistani. Btw shouldn't you be blaming Sharifs and ISI :o:

What are you going to achieve by talking to Kashmirs separatists without India's involvements?....nothing.

The Kashmiri separatist leaders have been invited by the Pakistan High Commission here to meet Aziz, who will visit India to hold talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, a move about which the government is clearly unhappy, sources said.

"Let's see what happens (if they go ahead with the meeting with the separatists). The government will respond appropriately," PTI quoted government sources as saying.

The sources asserted that there are some sections in the Pakistani establishment which want to "scuttle" the Indo-Pak talks and are ratcheting up anti-India activities thereby, pushing India to call off NSA-level talks scheduled for Sunday.

"The invitation should be seen as latest provocative move in that direction," the sources said.

Hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has been been invited to meet Aziz while other separatists leaders like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have been invited for the reception being held in Aziz's honour by the Pakistan mission.

Last year, India had unilaterally called off Foreign Secretary-level talks after the Pakistan High Commissioner here had held "consultations" with the Kashmiri separatist leaders on the eve of the Foreign Secretary-level meeting.

what the ! India? Kashmir our territory and we will invite our Muslim brothers for talk, celebrations and planning. If India has problem, she should accept it as new normal.

Hehehe... Pakistani Establishment has some idea of what's going to happen in NSA talks. No wonder they have been doing everything to make India call off talks. Sadly for them the window closes on 23/Aug. After that we will see disproportionate response by Indian side on borders. PA knows it well .

Just dispatch Bofors and Pinaka to LoC. No use of further talks.
