The technology behind Britain’s newly acquired “stealth” jets could fall into the hands of Vladimir Putin if Turkey is permitted to buy 116 of the aircraft alongside a Russia’s missile system, the US fears.

Britain has struck a deal to buy 138 F-35 fighter jets and has so far committed money for 48 of them, with the first four arriving last month.

Sea trials using the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth are scheduled to begin later this year.

However, Turkey, which is also a member of Nato, is also planning to buy a large consignment of the jets, as well as the Russian S-400 missile system, and experts have warned this could mean the Kremlin would be able to access data highlighting any potential vulnerabilities.
US Senator Chris Van Hollen has added a provision to a senate bill which would shelve the sale to Turkey until US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo certifies that the country will not purchase the S-400.

Mr Van Hollen said: “I support the transfer of F-35 advanced aircraft to Turkey, but not if they proceed with the acquisition of the Russian S-400 missile defense system.

Why not? Turkey had a joint venture with USA on this program along with several other countries.

well, UK has no say in the metter.
Also, there are ways to protect integrity of F35. Turkey plans to use its own softwer, and is willing to let NATO to inspect the system. And there will no be russian technicans on turkish soil, turkey plans to send its own operators in Russia for training. Ragip Soylu had a good article adresing these issues.

Not to mention that all this could be avoided if US accepted to sell latest version of Patriots to Turkey back in the day.

I think that the main isssue regarding this threat of sanctions has manly to do with that american pastor which is in prison in Turkey. If you go thru the list of names of these senators and congresmen who are pusshing this, almost all of them are thise evangelical looney beans like Graham and co.

Air combat (warfare) changed, he can say what he wants the F35 is a flying super Computer with superior electronics and radars.

A good educated and experienced pilot (F-35) would never go in 1vs1 Dogfight against a more maneuvarable faster Aircraft (F-16, SU-35...)

F35 showed recently that its not that bad in air to air as someones tried to show it. It also have pretty good records against F15s for a multi role fighter. Its not made for dogfight but if used with proper tactics it can be a nightmare in a BVR as its developed more for it.

Yeah he probably isn't right saying that the f35 is a lemon but he does make some interesting points about how battle for Britain radars can detect and track any aircraft in the world including "stealth" which doesn't really exist there is no such thing as stealth aircraft i agree with you though it is a great plane with superior electronics.

. . . .
BS for now, they are talking about optical for detecting. Lets call it something hybrid.:-)

As I said, its still has a long way to go. Its basicly in its infancy still (Except in case of China. they already tested it, , good old over the top communist propaganda :D ) But when it matures it will be a definite stealth killer. And not only that, it has potential to bing some other bells and wistles to the table, like identifing properties and materials of detected objects, being immune to the electromagnetic phenomena...

Remebered this useful article on the subject. It gives a lot more detailed and realistic view on the metter
