What's new

Will Russia tempt Indian Army with new Armata tank?

Well, we can always acquire 350-400 0f these tanks.

Rumor has it, that India wants to cut down its MBT fleet from 4100 at present to 2750,
Having realized that Indian border with China is not suitable for Heavy tanks, instead Army will induct 2000 Light Tanks/IFW which weigh 14-20 tons. These will be deployed with the mountain warfare divisions facing china.

Instead of Developing an all new MBT, for the shortfall of 1000 tanks, it would be better to induct a Mix of Armata and Arjun MK2/3

Knowing Parikar and Modi, we are likely to see army being asked to deploy Arjuns in the Punjab sector

You are wrong, there is no other tank like it. The Armata crew and tank survivability should be much greater then any other tank because of there is no crew in the turret which from studies is the most prone area to being hit. Apart from that the crew is locked away in a an an armored capsule, this means that even if the turret is blown off and the chassis is penetrated or even blown in half the crew will likely still be alive because they are separate from all other compartments. The tank also features an active protection system that will kill all rpg's and anti tank missiles before they can reach the Armata.
I don't believe sensational Russian media and marketing. There is nothing revolutionary in the gun, or the protection. Already exists with other tanks. Also the guns seem limited to turret, instead of remote operation from commander. Air defence and situational awareness just took a hit. second that gun 30 MM is unnecessary especially if its limited to the main gun as seen in the graphic. Separate compartment for ammo already exists on most NATO tanks based onMBT 70 prototype design. Its still a big fix over existed T-72 and T-90 though but I bet the crew still has to load the autoloader manually which i'll ask tanknets guys about. Also with all the added gadgets and self protection suite, it'll add to the cost which completely destroys the original idea of the T-90 being a cheap tank. Right now a T-90 goes for 4 Million a piece and this thing could be a lot more. If you work up to a 10 Million dollar tank, your up there with NATO tanks like Lecrec Abrahms except you don't have their size, fording, range or armor.
I think its a good start, but we'll see some bling pulled from the tank to make it economical.

India is on the path to destruction. A poor men country will remain poor. Nobody to pay tax only subsidy takers.

People take pride in getting social security. It's becoming a beggars nation.

No point buying it,when our own Armour programme has matured, besides it would not be wise to buy basic military hardware from a country whose GDP would be surpassed by India

This is a silly argument. If the crew is locked away in a capsule, the chances of survivability increase drastically, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that if any other tank is penetrated the crew will die or be injured where as in the armata the crew is locked in a capsule in the most heavily armored part of the tank. There is also no media twist in it. The decision was made by Uralvagonzavod after extensive research.

Already exists with other tanks.

All other tanks have manned turrets.

Also the guns seem limited to turret, instead of remote operation from commander.

What are you talking about? The Armata's turret is still a secret.

Air defence and situational awareness just took a hit.

How on earth do you know the Armata's situational awareness? How did "air defence" take a hit if the Armata has an active protection system that can destroy anti tank missiles including those launched from aircraft?

second that gun 30 MM is unnecessary especially if its limited to the main gun as seen in the graphic.

You are looking at a fake picture. I would also take a 30mm gun any day of the week over a 7.62 or 50bmg.

You are not understanding. You are confused, many western tanks have ammo bustles, but the crew is still located in the turret and chassis. One hit anywhere in the tank and the crew either dies or is injured. In the Armata, the crew is also separated from the ammo but the difference is that the crew in the Armata are stationed in the safest part of the tank not only in terms of protection but also low hit probability. As long as the crew capsule is not penetrated the Armata crew can survive being hit anywhere. Turret, mid chassis, ect.

Also with all the added gadgets and self protection suite, it'll add to the cost which completely destroys the original idea of the T-90 being a cheap tank. Better tell the Indian high command to stop buying Israeli products then.

I thought that was the armata tank. But i'm not going to argue about something we don't know yet, and i'll wait until tank nets runs a analysis. I'd answer you but i don't want to bother with something i haven't seen yet but will say despite the mis communiction, there is just afailure to understand. T-90's price is important. Thats what makes it a good tank.

Are you idiot why are accusing me?

Reality is with all those figures there is no economic growth projects are halted.

People need real growth not this verbal bull shyt

Where is the money going ? Ask any person from any sector everybody is dying. No progress no development no hike.

And don't make me stoop low.

.
We can buy few of these to replace older tanks but then we would have to make sure it does not affect Arjun's induction into the Army after that we would have to check whether this tank can function in Thar desert or not otherwise it would be like T-90's malfunctioning in the desert!:(

I love it when I hit the target :)
Jealousy ... that too with an Indian!!
when was the last time I heard this phrase...lemme think....never!

Of what?
Not being able to build military equipment on your own? Or begging for aid and shoving a significant amount of your GDP into your military while not getting electricity and other basic needs for your people? Or maybe we are jealous of the cancerous terrorist problem and a bad economy.

It sure looks like you hit the mark.
