While it will have a direct impact on the countries with considerable Kurd population, it will also set a dangerous precedent for a wider region as well.
Both Pakistan and Iran has a Baluch population of which a segment aspire for independence. Northern Iraq becoming an independent Kurdish state will not only breath a new life to such aspirations, but will also set an example to be used as a template by global powers with nefarious goals for the region.
People said the same thing when Pakistan got its independence from India. They were afraid Pakistani independence would inspire Kurds and Baluchs to claim independence . But the Shah still chose to support Pakistan. Nothing happened to Irans internal borders.
The majority of Kurds in Iran lives in a province called Kordestan. Most of them are Pro government or Pro Iranian.
The second most populated area by kurds is Western Azerbaijan. The majority of Kurds here, in fact. Almost all wants independence. Fortunately The majority in Western Azerbaijan are Azeris who do not want independence.
Kurds are fighting a lost cause in Iran. But what worries me is that kurds have started to populate Western Azerbaijan in such a rate that they might become the majority there. They have already claimed The capital of West Azerbaijan "Urumieh" as the capital of "Kurdistan". The government is doing nothing about it and it really bothers me. If they continue to populate Western Azerbaijan I believe they will succeed to gain independence if not It would at least cause a major bloodshed between Azeris and Kurds
how can you compare it with Baluch problem bro, overwhelming majority of Baloch despite having grievances with central govt want to remain part of Pakistan and Iran. While majority Kurds despite having some kind of autonomy want to create their new homeland..
if Kurd succeed, it will not encourage loyal Baluch but west to support separatist in whole region. Pakistan should support all friendly countries against this movement.
I completely agree with you. Baluchs in Iran live under the poorest conditions (compared to rest of Iran) Kurds however live in one of the richest provinces. "Kordestan and West Azerbaijan" They are treated equal. There is no discrimination against any minority in Iranian law, but it is easy to spot a Baluch, while its almost impossible to separate a Persian from a Kurd or Azeri when it comes to looks.
Baluchs are treated unfairly. They have reason to rebel, Kurds are just ungrateful.
