WikiLeaks: Narendra Modi, the lone honest Indian politician

. . . .
one cable says namo is bully, controlling another says he is honest .. hm

Fits in perfectly for an Honest person to survive in this extremely corrupt country.

If you are honest and not a bully your life will hell just like Mr. Khemka

In-2-decade-career-haryana-ias-officer-khemka-transferred-45 times

And if you even know some one close at the top beurocratic position in this country (some thing I have) you will how much corrupt the whole system is. And how hard it is for an honest person to survive. They will drive you to the brink of madness if you don't play game. There are very few people who have the balls to take on the system and try to change things. Most end up like Mr. Khemka.

Has supreme court of India indicted Modi? If not, he is innocent.period.

What is the administrative track record for Modi?

What is India inc's opinion towards Modi?

Does modi have the writ to take tough decisions, does he have a spine unlike MMS

Will modi be able to facilitate India's growth potential

What will be Modi's national agenda,

Will modi be able to work with the same vigor under the NDA-2 alliance pressures

Will a government under modi remain bipartisan towards state governments ruled by congress/communists/JD etc

These imho are a few key aspects every individual needs to analyse before considering his candidature.

The problem is that people instead of discussing these important aspects are more into discussing RSS, Hitler, Stalin, Italy, Firstname, Lastname et. al.

@drunken-monke Your take on riots is that they were spontaneous.A view shared by a lot of people.

@Joe Shearer your take on riots is that they were planned.Again a view shared by a lot of people.

My take on this issue is that

It was an anniversary of babri masjid demolition. Every one including sangh parivar expected some disturbances to take place and planned for contingencies.

The Godhra train burning incident gave an excuse to put that plan in action.

So the riots were both spontaneous and organised. They were spontaneous as it was train burning incident which provided the spark and motivational force but without advanced planning they would not have been so successful.

The point i have made is effectively useless but is important in understanding as to how people could have polarized views on this as both sides could argue their case with logic.

@drunken-monke

It is duty of administrators to remain neutral and not side at one of aggravating party.

The State provides a balance and distributive justice. As a corollary it is duty of state to side with weak party if it is aggressed upon. This is the reason that if a goon tries to extract bounty from you, government should interfere.

The point some people made about revenge are perfectly correct. The belief that we should wait for justice to be done by judiciary when someone attack you on the basis of identity is defeatism.

But could you or someone else explain as to how revenge was fulfilled by attacking muslims in ahemdabad.Would it not be more appropriate if rioters would have attacked locality in godhra which has a hand in train burning.

I totally understand your desire to have a neutral /please all view on the topic But please don't twist the facts.

Godhra Train Burning 27th Feb

Godhra riots started 28th Feb

Godhra Riots mostly ended on 3rd March

And if you know it was 6 Dec when Babri Masjid was demolished

Hopefully you understand that is almost 3 months which is a quarter year.

That would then be true of the BJP as a whole who played politics with the nuke deal & with important economic decisions. It would be true of the BJP blocking GST, opposing retail FDI etc.

Nobody is claiming the BJP is clean. Certainly it had scum-bags like Brajesh Mishra, who was responsible for bailing out Rahul Baba when he was detained at Boston Airport with a large amount of looted cash.

The limited point is that by not stretch of imagination can MMS be called honest - rather, his main virtues are an absence of spine, and not demanding a share of the loot.

@Audio Do you want me post the documentary ?

Riots is one thing, genocide is other.

In riots, especially in India and Gujarat, both got aggressive and killed each other.

In genocide like Rwanda, just one victim. Tutsi. Believe me, I don't say things without anything.

the riots could have been considered as planned only if you are saying that bjp/rss/vhp also did an inside job of killing 59 hindus in godhra by burning them alive and then using that ruse to kill muslims....

now are you saying that ?

errr.....the incident happened in Feb 27....the anniversary of ram janmabhoomi movement was on dec 6..

second.....are the rss/vhp wallahs prescient that a spark will be provided on Feb 27 by burning alive 59 hindus and they planned the revenge attacks in advance...i mean does that even make sense ?

I guess I should be grateful you did not call me Hitler or Nazi .....that seems to be the standard principle on which you operate. :disagree:

thank god he did not call you a sanghi troll....thats his favorite plan B.

so,whats the problem with the RSS?

they dont give a **** to arm chair pundits....they dont look for the seal of approval from the fake intellectuals.....thats the problem....

Not once Have I seen any discussion on modi's policies, governance, agenda, developmental projects, Envisioned projects. All that people can chatter about is godhra... if there was a shred of evidence to suggest misdoings for godhra, modi would have been behind bars, now when supreme court of India doesn't have anything against Modi, why do we keep discussing godhra again and again!

. .
anyway once again anti-modi bigots have hijacked the discussion from his integrity, his honesty and non corrupt nature to the gujarat riots....

@KRAIT @arp2041 @MST @sankranti note this how every topic on modi even positive ones like this get digressed....

its always...whatever good things you say about modi or gujarat it is always the stock reply....but what about 2002....what about 2002...? it was a riot sparked by muslims killing hindus....hindus retaliating in areas they were in majority and muslims in areas they were in majority...one among the dozens of communal riots in india.....move on.....

lets stop talking about abstract, intangible concepts like liberalism, secularism which nobody can measure and there is no set parameter for measuring and talk about issues in hand.....how modi has approached various issues and how pappu gandhi will approach....that is the real issue....

I think everyone is hung up too much on 2002 riots and have lost the priorities on what India needs.

For me, the priorities in no particular order are these -

Justice for 1984 genocide victims
Justice for 2008 Mumbai victims and action against perps
Strong policy on Terrorism including strong counter-ops
Economy, GDP and reforms
Defence preparation including faster procurement process and plugging in deficiencies quickly
Getting rid of many of the subsidies and socialist schemes
Avoiding Scams
Strong energy policies and setup of infrastructure for energy
Ease of setup/doing business atmosphere

What I have seen with Congress in the past 8 years

scams including the Jagan scam in Andhra which was done when he belonged to Congress
Socialist schemes including waiving of more than $9 billion dollar loans for farmers
Slowing down of economy due to lack of proper reforms
Energy deficiency
Too soft on terrorism including not going after Mumbai planners
Scary defense preparation including cancellations of different arms procurement processes
Half *** foreign policies and strategies and knee-jerk reactions - Failures in SL, Maldives, Nepal
Convenient use of CBI for political agenda
Perps of 1984 genocide and willing to sweep the issue under the carpet

- It is a no-brainer for me on who I would pick - I do not give a damn on whether Modi is not presentable as a PM(we do not need a goodlooking actor or a sweet talker - rather we need a doer who can kick some butt and get things done) or had an hand in 2002 riots as long as the courts does not see an issue with him

P:S - He has gone through sufficient scrutiny in the past 10 years - multiple times more than the 1984 genocide perps that I believe anyone who is bringing up the 2002 riot topic again has only a vested agenda.
