WikiLeaks: Indian army poses as obstacle to Siachen solution

. .
It's a stupid piece of iceberg with no real strategic interests. Its costs India more to maintain a presence there than the benefit of stationing troops in that stupid piece of ice. Just give it back to the Pakistani government as an Eid gift and tell them to behave or else the next time we ain't returning this frozen wasteland again. Some cold eastern front will be good for Pakistan now considering the warm north western front which they are experiencing. Sorry, but my weather forecasts may not appeal to all. Anyway, nobody really listens to the good advice of the weatherman these days :undecided:

On the contrary it is a very strategic iceberb..a long stretch of Karokoram Highway is visible from Salltoro ridge and it can be used to cut off KKH(Chinese supplies to Pakistan through northern routes in case of a war) .

You captured, empty territory.

India also captured Pakistani held posts like Bana Post.

In any case, why should India withdraw at all?
The amount of money that takes to keep army there is less than miniscule in our defence budget. There have been no deaths due to the climate there for about 7 years!

Secondly, and most importantly, if we withdraw it is going a unilateral withdrawal because Pakistan is not even ON the glacier! Heck, Pakistan cant even see the glacier from their forward most outpost!! Its completely taken by Indian Army. That maybe one of the reasons why they want IA to withdraw.

Any withdrawal should be equal, they have nothing to offer over there unless they compensate it in some other sector.
