Actually, no.
UK - Chinese relation was build solely around Economic Relation, but if we only consider economic cooperation, then we can say US have a better relationship to China than the UK.
Political and Diplomatic relation between the UK and China are normal, they are virtually the same between US-China or Canada-China or even Australia-China relationship.
Don't forget, China banned David Cameron from visiting Beijing in 2013 for meeting with Dalai Lama.
And the Brits have not taken the side on China regarding SCS or Senkaku issue, the Chinese did not back UK claim in Falklands, in fact, if I remember correctly, China was and still is on the side of Argentina.
But if your only measuring scale is AIIB, then...
We found a law, helping a remote country is more or less better than helping a nearby country.
1. Help a neighbor, they always doubt China want to gain something from them, actually sometimes its situation ask China to help. Another example is that USA actually stop the 2 world wars extend to latin America, did they ever show their thanks to America? I rarely heard about it.
2. Help a remote country, they may remember it. When we travel in the countries, some of them often express the appreciation. For example, during the era of colonial system collapsed in Africa, we helped African independence, they can remember it. The Belgrade local govt ( Serbia ) ever year will commemorate the Chinese reporters' death, because Chinese help them during the war. North Korean? Vietnamese? North Korean propaganda is Kim family lead the country and people defeat American. (I need to say Pakistan is an except, they are honest and kind man. )
3. China learned the lesson. So nowadays, China govt keep neutrality to the Myanmar-BD conflicts, the Malaysia-PH disputes, the Thailand-Cambodia disputes, the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan conflicts, the Iran-Israel conflicts...
