To me it appears that 1947 came about by default than by design. As late as 1946 ML was in discussions revolving around autonomy to regions with a united India. Pakistan has it exists today was being pushed by Allama Iqbal. Jinnah and ML wanted to secure their interests in post 1947 situation.

The earliest mention of Pakistan as it exists today was advocated by Allama in 1930.

So frankly I don't see any real good reason for what happened in 1947. If anybody expects any good reasons for 1947 I would ask them what was the reason for the following events?

1. Punjab annexed to British India by British guns - 1849.
2. Sindh annexed to British India by by British guns -1843

So to reduce this issue to its basic essence all I see the 1947 event as a result of the actions of British in 1849 and 1843. If the British had not been so greedy in 1843-49 the 1947 event would never have happened

The bottom line is power, greed and lust. Of course you can apply all sort of complex explanation post 1947 which has been done. Books have been written, hell even a ideaology has been contructed around the myth and hyperbole.

Communal incidents happen due to supposed reasons - Hindu Muslim fights happen based on one community attacking another in their majority areas and vice versa. It starts from a small area and due to high communal tensions spreads to other areas of the state. The good thing here was it was brought under control very quickly - or else more people would have lost their lives.

People of both communities fought with each other, things went out of control very quickly. Reactions on both sides were instantaneous. The government machinery kicked in and brought things to a stand still.
