Why Pakistan Should Build New Cities Now!

Yep

Chicago was burned to the ground in a fire and rebuilt, look where Chicago is now.

If you think ISB is perfectly planned, you need to see what planning looks like in Europe/USA.
You could argue about implementations. Pakistan doesn't have a good urban planning council. I've worked with Ministry of Urban Planning UAE in Abu Dhabi and the way they work just blows your mind. Their GIS is awesome and I worked on a project where they worked in conjuction with EADS (Airbus) Abu Dhabi where they mapped the city using 2 aircraft that got the data by doing several passes over it.

.
Every corner of streets littered with garbage, open drainage canals, sewers water spilling out on roads, buildings look like were made by a troglodyte, apartments become oven in summers and arctic in winters. ISB used to be a beautiful city but not anymore, i guess this is what happens when you let illiterate villagers settle in main cities.

Littering is a constant thing, as long as people are breathing. There need to be metal bins available for people to throw litter into. Its common is Karachi, where people clean their homes and kachrawala takes all the accumulated garbage and pits it at the end of the street.

Still comparatively, Islamabad has a structure, where buildings and houses are not built at every available plot. It is still miles better than other big cities in Pakistan.

But I agree with the maintenance part, city needs to be kept clean and regular repairs are needed for it to be considered as being a city of high living standard.

Would be great to custom design a plan for Pakistan. Rather than the flashy developments in Malaysia and Saudi, what is needed are simple, well planned small cities all over the country. How to build them cost effectively?

Recruit unemployed youth with minimal salary and draft additional. After x amount of years worked, recruited youth will get a small house or flat for themselves. This will empower the youth and help Pakistan develop.

Also, each new city should have a theme and a target industry. A "Clock City" would be designed keeping in mind creating a city that designs and builds watches and clocks. A "Solar City" would fabricate solar panels. A "City of Lights" would build LED bulbs. "Smartphone City" would build smartphones. "Water City" would build water filtration systems.

"Iron Works City" would have steel and iron industries. "Fashion City" would have a city that looks to create fashion brands and develop their brands to reach internationally. A "Libtard City" will have all the bhungies and crazy libtards.

We do need to build new cities, as others have mentioned they need to be well planned out like Islamabad, but also at the same time we need to think to future needs when we build our cities. We need to consider steps to reduce traffic and commuting in the cities, include parks and play areas and leave green open spaces for future expansion within the cities (like building more schools, health centres etc).

@Imran Khan made a great point about coastal cities. The existing towns could be twinned with them and eventually absorbed into the new cities. We have a beautiful coastline which is currently largely uninhabited.

A lot of the population density is around the current big cities, we need to build new cities close to them, but not so close that they become indistinguishable in 50 years time. A part of this will also be done by ensuring greenbelts around cities to limit expansion.

It will help with job creation too. A project to build 10-20 new cities in Pakistan could create jobs for a whole decade.

Pakistan is clearly a over populated country. time to strictly impose one child policy .
in 1947 total population of UK was 5 crore where as population of Pakistan were 3.7 crore.
Now in 2020 UK Population 6.5 crore and we are more than 22 crore.

LOL, we couldn't impose lockdown, how do you propose imposing 1 child policy? What will the state do - take away people's children? We need to focus on education and free contraception.

jahan se karachi lahore islmabad ja rahi hai . all of villages towns people move to big cities . if we just think like pakistanis we can move industry and plants from karachi lahore pindi to these cites . people will go where jobs are .but problem is we think like sindhi punjabi blochi kashmiri pathan . good example is when PIA HQ was moved from karachi to islamabad sindh gov and people make it big issue like its stealing of thier wealth . in fact its just an issue of largest airport of pakistan is now islamabad and its more secure and clean place now then karachi for transit flights . HQ should be there .our people are really crazy . just look many new cities in GULF countries they were desert 20 years ago but then rise .

To answer your question about population - if we have jobs and opportunities in these place, the population will come. Those who travel to Dubai and Europe on boats will also travel to these cities IF there are jobs and IF they can actually afford to settle there. No point having ghost cities where nobody can afford to buy property apart from speculative investors.

Any new city build MUST ensure that property built there is not hoarded by speculative investors, otherwise it will be a failure. Population will not be able to afford to move, the entire project will fail.

To answer your question on where to build cities?

A few suggestions;
  • Around bigger cities like Lahore and Karachi.
  • In areas we have resources we want to have manpower to exploit (like the coast for example)
The trick is to have them nearer to existing places, but still 20-30km away. If we have decent roads and public transport than these areas can be populated.

We need to keep them away from agricultural land, natural forests and other sites of interest (like places which could be good sites for dams in the future).

I'm not sure if we could pull off cities in the middle of nowhere.

we definitely need to spread infrastructure health education and other related facilities around Pakistan. To name few cities khushab mianwali talagang kohat bano DI khan are almost in center of pakistan covering around 30 of Pakistan total area. have traveled there a lot but nothing close to any modern facilities exist. we need to expand our facilities to smaller cities.

and as some posters have pointed out we must have at leat 4 big coastal cities.

On a personal note when ever I watch a cricket match in Perth I always wished we could have similar ground in Gawadar.
