Alappuzha: Goons unleashed attack on students of an engineering college here on Friday while they were celebrating holi.

The attackers alleged that the colours used by students fell on some women passersby. Four students sustained injures in the attack. Alleging that the attack was carried out with the knowledge of the management, the students ransacked the college.

The students of engineering college at Pattoor, Nooranad here had celebrated holi on Thursday. Their plan to extend the celebrations on Friday was opposed by management following complaints from parents. Accordingly, the venue of celebrations was shifted outside the campus.

While splashing colours on each other, it is alleged that the colours fell on some women. Also, the parents of some girl students turned up with complaints. Provoked over this, an eight-member gang emerged and started attacking the students with logs and steel rods.

Four students sustained injuries on their heads were admitted to a private hospital in Idappon.

Later, alleging that the attack was at the behest of the management, the students ransacked the office of the college and also broke the windowpanes of classrooms and windshields of college bus.

The Nooranad police registered a case and investigations are on.

I am in the gulf and went to an Al-ain hotel recently. They were serving pork. I simply avoided that dish. Pork is also sold in grocery shops in Dubai. UAE is well a religious state and even they had enough vision.

Because cows cannot give birth to more cows without bulls. And a bullock becomes a bullock not naturally but because of man. So its man duty to protect him.

Its a shame. I thought we could learn much from India-particularly the secular model but most Indians today do not have that secular mindset. Glad to see mallus though who maintain such ideals. I believe for countries like Pakistan and India some form of minority appeasement is necessary. Much less they are banning things for minorities too. This beef issue is very similar to what Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto did. He banned drinking even for minorities. I oppose his alcohol ban even on muslims however as everyone must have a choice. Many Hindus still eat beef, so I am quite clear that this is a law against fundamental human rights.

Well it will affect muslims most. The cow is often eaten particularly on bakr eid a muslim festival.

We depend on holy cow each and every day throughout our life. Having not satisfied with feeding on her throughout, we human want to suck her life too?

Having said all this - I am a religious third-class hindu but not a hindutvavadi. I have nothing against muslim and christians eating it like any other meat - their understanding and their life. Frankly I do not believe in banning cow slaughter by the Govt. I do not know them banning it because for a noble cause or just to antagonize muslims and christians. It is said that India is one of the largest exporter of beef which was on for decades now. Suddenly one fine morning you wake up and prohibit this without giving any thought to the after effect.

I get sad and depressed when I see old useless cattle roaming around on our roads eating rubbish and garbage thrown on roads. I feel helpless at the plight of injured, sick, and helpless animals including cow in and around. Could the Govt do something about it. Once we hindu can take care of our holy cow throughout her life with love and compassion then we can proudly ban the slaughter.
