What's new

Why is wearing Shalwar Kameez considered lower in pakistan nowadays ?

Part 2 of my above post

The only time I enjoyed was once I was sitting in a restaurant somewhere in Pakistan and a gentleman entered the restaurant and sat beside my table. He was wearing western dress and very good watch. From the word he spoke, I immediately realised that he was a foreigner and was boasting about his status and all.

So after listening to his nonsense for 10-15 minutes I politely asked him Sir are you a foreigner and he said yes and I said your watch looks really beautiful and as usual his reply was, oh yes I bought it from Spain :D

and I asked him whereabout in Spain Sir? and he was like oh you wouldn't even know such a place so forget it but its somewhere in Barcelona (due to salwar kameez I guess) :(

So I asked him again about the area in Barcelona and he was shocked when I even knew the exact place he had purchased the watch from as I had been travelling to Spain for holiday back then. The guy was just a student and started feeling like an alien in Pakistan but it was nice to see him embarrassed (for lesson sake) by the way he was boasting about his status so I still remember that incident

Similar issue happened with the lady at the Islamabad International Airport when she was boasting so much that she had come from Switzerland and wouldn't let anybody speak to her if they were wearing anything but western dress... She was so arrogant in my opinion so I humbly asked her location and she replied Geneva and similar find-an-address quiz lead me to her street and she was shocked and surprisingly happy when I mentioned a shopping centre on her street and the mosque (inaugurated by Saudi King) opposite that shopping centre and she was like --- oh wahan se 1 minute ke fasle pe mera ghar hai... tum to baray taiz nikle maine socha tum koi paindu ho ge

Although I was wearing very expensive salwar kameez at that time... par it doesn't matter if you wear 20,000usd of salwar kameez you will remain desi with that
Hahahaha Zaki .

You've many interesting stories to share . Love it .

I see one more person boasting about his foreign trips on PDF, did you know that person
1. Spain
2. Switzerland

Tell us about other places you had holidays :what:
lol it doesn't apply to me...

This forum has 90% community living in USA and Europe so Pakistani and Indian nationals living in respective nations are minority. If it was not the case I may not have mentioned it at all... You cannot see the members IP address but 90% Pakistani and Indian members are traced abroad

You know I think it's only people of balochistan that wear shalwar kameez the most , daily routine, office, work, family , functions .. everywhere only our national dress :p . We're more pakistanis lol :D . Kidding .

Perhaps you haven't been to other provinces.

.
A lot of it also depends on how you carry off the clothes you wear...
You are right sir but such species tend to generalise people on the basis of dress code. As I said it doesn't matter if your salwar kameez is worth 800 rupees or 80,000... Whether its iron pressed or not, all it matters is, Salwar kameez hi to hai

Bhai ... That response usually comes from new money types .. Specifically offsprings of new money.

That's right...

kuch logon ne bachpan main buray din dekhay hotay hain to wo jawani main bohat jaldi badal jatay hain lakin unki aadatain burhapay tak nahi badalati... if you know what I meant

I think people like us were grown up wearing Salwar Kameez, Trousers, Suits, all the Pakistani and western dresses so it doesn't make us feel stranger or inferior/superior on the basis of dress code but then there is certain class in our South Asia who will assess people on the basis of dress code

Bye for now

remember earlier in the century when I was back from the US. a printer supply guy my father bought a lot of stuff from would not let me use his phone (on payment, not gratis) to call home because I was wearing a shalwar kameez and happened to ask him politely in Urdu rather than the English I was more fluent in back then.

he was extremely rude although he himself wore shalwar kameez with a jacket and also had a short beard I believe; when my Dad went around, the shop owner would practically prostate himself before him for the few hundred rupees that would be spent in his store..

people's demeanor used to change so much when I was wearing my Gaps that I gave them away and got an all-shalwar kameez warddrobe.

when you are near broke and wearing casual clothes, you find out about people's true nature in this country. Being broke or wearing tees back in the US only ever kept me out of a first class upgrade or the Rainbow Room at 30 Rock (and even then the doorman offered me a jacket).

with age, white in my hair, and maybe more confidence in my bearing, Alhamdolillah, don't feel discriminated against these days. also, people with beards and in shalwar kameez are now everywhere, in the Army, high posts, and most importantly on the media. some people from the hoity-toity private Pakistani schools feel they must be more American than the Americans themselves but maybe we can still become a more egalitarian society someday.

sorry, I hope this was a "whatever" type of anecdotal thread.

Aik aor incidents (story) hi sunatay jao k kesy app ney kisi raise zaday / zadey ki class li because of your knowledge of foreign visits
I hope app mujhe ban nahien karo gey per pata nahien kiyoun I ike to pull legs.
ek dafa ka zikr hai ke hamara plane crash hotay hotay bach gaya aur Lahore ki bajaye Delhi Airport pe utar gaya. Jahaz main koi 10-15 logon se meri salam dua ho gayi for obvious reasons jo ek group sa ban gaya tha. Upon knowing ke Airport pe sharab free milti hai taste karne ke liye to one of that guy went to taste sharab (chota cup), he tasted it and came back to us and told other people. I was stunningly shocked to see ke saray 15 ke 15 log except me and 1 more guy, they all decided to taste the wine. In an attempt to taste the wine, one of the Pakistani guy tasted it for 15-20 times until the whole bottle had not finished

Ye hum Pakistaniyo ka haal hai, jo banda usay serve kar raha tha, he claimed ke wo usay Bahrain se janta tha as they had lived together for some time and then he was relocated to India but I do not know all that. All I know is, it was 99 dollar per bottle (if I remember the price), something like that.. and he ended up drinking the whole bottle in sample cups

But still they're considered poor and unattractive .

Calling a Pathan wearing Shalwar Kameez "Poor" ..... OK. can be.

Calling a Pathan wearing Shalwar Kameez "Unattractive".......... . Bhai Satya gae o kia ? :D

A Pathan wearing Shalwar Kameez would be the last thing to be called "Unattractive"...

Actually nowadays people who wear s.k know they'll be perceived as poor so they wear coat over it to look cool .

What you are looking at is the concept of Fast Fashion coming to Pakistan. Fashionistas need jobs too so they try to convince you to buy an extra piece of clothing. Its entirely up to you if you are going for that look.

Nah , it's not about province just false perception of people about shalwar kameez.
Seen such kind of examples many times . .
