Currently Southern Indian states are more developed and doing much better economically than the Northern states which leads to the strange situation that Southern states pay for the development of the Northern states without any gain.

What are the reasons for the huge difference between South and North.
Are the main reasons cultural, political or even historical?

Yep **** North india. They should be a seperate state . Too many filthy muslims in there anyways right?
What are you talking about?
Anyways it is interesting to note that the worst states of modern India Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were during ancient period some of the most developed regions in the world during the Maurya and Gupta period.
It is incredible how time changes though.

This is where the concept of nation-state begins to crumble as a philosophical idea. Where does autonomy end up? How much sharing is ok, if the concept of 'us' is based on something shaky? That's not just India's problem it's everyone's. What it requires is something that Asia has a terrible track record of: political power sharing. I really don't see an end to it though.

Important thread....Market oriented economy will force Northern states and Bengal to bear their load....It's shameful that Northies make such a big deal of getting into Administrative govt jobs but in the end just keep pushing forward a moribund broken system...reduce the bureaucracy to a bare minimum and force people to innovate

The wealth transfer from richer states to poorer states is the hallmark of a political union of nation states. This can be found in US as well. It is only this wealth transfer that allows such union to exist. If not, then India would simply not work.

i have seen a video where its stated that the indian federal govt actually funded development in the states of india which are better today and didnt fund those which are impoverished, this was used as a policy during british era as well, the states which rebelled against the british during 1857 rebellion had to suffer economic consequences by the british and since india hasnt come out of colonial era policies, these states will continue to suffer because of it.

regards

The curse of 1857 still persists...I wonder what would have happened if we had succeeded..Any ideas?

India urgently needs separate state citizenship rights. otherwise, sooner or later we'll have a massive division at hands.

Because they are our brothers.
In a family if your sibling cant join his/ her two ends.Their own blood will support them .Right?
Same here also.
And we are indebted to them .It was their sacrifice that saved us South Indians from invaders .

Whatever shortcomings they have in their behaviour we can understand them and will support them.
Besides we took a lots of resources from there for our advantage

Dont get me wrongly. I do not question the concept of helping the less developed states but the question to which extent should be asked. Particularly even the more developed states have issues and would need the money for their own programs.

What kind of sacrifice are you talking about? The Empires which saved South India from the Turkic invaders were the Vijayanagar Empire and later the Maratha Empire. So no we are not indebted to them as it does not have anything to do with North Indians
