What's new

Why is Kannada, karnataka and kanndigas don't have enough recognition?

Are you kidding me? There are so many things that one identifies with Karnataka. For me the first that comes to mind is the Udupi cuisine. You guys invented the friggin Masala Dosa and that is the symbol of the entire south Indian cuisine. No one cares about Idli or Idiyappam or Puttu.

When someone tells you to list South Indian businessman, the first guy who comes to everyone's mind is Mallya. He is Kannada, is he not?

Also, you've got the most famous writers/artists in India today from both ends of the spectrum. Bhyrappa, URA, Girish Karnad, etc.

If someone asks you to list the greatest south Indian dynasty, you'd immediately remember only two: Cholas from Tamil Nadu, Vijayanagara from Karnataka (although they were Tulu speakers).

Dusshera is still seen mainly as a Karnataka festival in the south.

Yakshagana may not be famous, but most people see that as the most famous Kannada dance form.

You haven't had your own superstars. You did not idolize any Kannada actor to the level that Rajni or Chiranjeevi or Mammutty/Mohan lal were idolized in their respective states. So no Kannada actor is that famous. Even Rajkumar never enjoyed that status. The fault lies with you. Not with others for not knowing a superstar from your state, since you never had one.

As @Bitter Melon said, this is a bozo thread.
Rajkumar was a superstar as good as Rajni. Both when he was kidnapped by Veerappan and then later on when he died, the emotional reaction from Kannadigas was insane.

Don't take that figgin idiot Mallya's name. It was his Bengali genes which was dominant.

You have no idea how wrong you are here...... I was in Mysore When Rajkumar Passed away........ There was riot in mysore....... Similarly when he was kidnapped by veerappan.......

Those guys used to cry "Appajiiii" and riot....

. .
Both speak Kannada and are from Karnataka so that does make them Kannadigas in a way.
In that sense you are right,But her mother tongue is Tulu...Vijay malya is konkani if i am not wrong....
Even our central minister Sadhananda gowda is Are bashe gowda, not Kannada gowda.

A lay man in any part of south India knows that mohan lal is a malayali ,chiranjivi is a telugu and rajanikanth is a tamil hero.however no one including me knows the name of single kannada actor.

Many south indians know that bharata natyam is a dance form from tamil nadu ,kuchipudi from andhra pradesh and kathakali from kerala.
But what is the dance form of karnataka ?

A state like kerala which is smaller than karnataka has its unique identity.
Why doesnt karnataka have one ?No one seems to be bothered that there is a language called kannada or people called kannadigas.

I would rate Kannadigas the most accommodating people in the entire India.

This is my favorite song.

I am not kannadiga bro..anyway Malya is a tulu..girish karnad is a konkani...Raj Kumar is not that popular out of karnataka like NTR or MGR.. yeah I agree one remembers Mysore at the mention of dussehra..according to me the only popular kannadigas are kumble ,srinath and prakash raj(i have to think hard to come up with those names)..do kumble and srinath speak kannada in media ?Let us be honest kannada or karnataka doesnt have the same recognition as some of the other languages or states do in south.

Other Three South Indian states are more in the news for Political reasons
such as Kerala ; Andhra and Tamil Nadu

Politically Karnataka is quiet ; hence no news
But economically and technologically KARNATAKA has Given India far too much

Karnataka has given to India the city of BANGALORE

That is enough Isnt it

Mysore and Mangalore too are very well known all over India

When you don't have a strong culture it is easy to accommodate as well as to get assimilated...you come to my state of telangana and see how Telugu festivals like ugadi and sankranti are being celebrated with equal fervor by marwadis and north Indians..I think the same is the case with north Indians in Tamil nadu and kerala..but I don't think that is the case in karnataka..because they don't have as strong a culture as other states..instead of assimilating others into their culture they get assimilated into settlers culture and call it accommodating... :D

I agree karnataka has given a lot to India..I don't think politics is reason for karnataka not getting limelight.. we don't even know who the chief minister of kerala is.. even then it has got it's recognition.

I also believe that Andhra and Tamil Nadu get a LOT of Religious visitors
from the North Indian states because of Balaji temple ; Rameshwaram and Madurai
and The Shiva Jyotirlinga of Mallikaarjuna in AP

Unfortunately Karnataka has NO major Religious attraction for outsiders
like Gujarat ; Maharashtra ; AP and Tamil Nadu have

It has no big Temple of either Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva or Goddess Durga
which is well known through out India

Even Sabarimala of Kerala has become popular in recent years

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kerala remains in the news for several OTHER reasons

Kerala comes in the news for CPM violence ;alcoholism ; alcohol bans
Natural beauty ; unemploymment ;emigration

Then on the positive side you have health and education achievement
Onam and Gold stacked in Padmanabhaswamy temple
