What's new

why is denying the holocaust against the law?

because freedom of speech.
should you not have the right to deny something?

Well... in case of Germany, Austria and of course Israel, I`d say that its pretty clear why they have this law. Since the Nazis were pretty much the worst that happened to them, they want to keep fighting them and contain them... thats why we see all those laws, from forbidden swastikas to the ban of Hitler`s Mein Kampf.

And freedom of speech also has its limits. The distribution of anti democratic propaganda and in this case false information which supports one of the most anti human regimes in human history should indeed be forbidden.

.
but freedom of speech should be implemented to all, not for selected cases.

.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

so if i go to any one of these countries
and i say
" i don't think the holocaust happened"
should i go to jail or be fined?

.
i support freedom of speech.
i let people make their own beds.

Freedom of speech is guaranteed within the framework of societal conscience, not at the expense of it. Blasphemy laws, Sedition laws, libel, slander etc are all meant to ensure just that.

. .
A murderer always says that he never killed. Is this freedom of speech?

Yes, as implemented in Europe a murderer can say that, if you want to stop views about holocaust then more people have died after WW-II it should be implemented to all, not on just one holocaust. Did you forget all wars in which west have killed millions of people and they deny it.

. .
im not denying that the holocaust happened.
however I've never understood why these "champions" of human rights and free speech ban "denial of the holocaust"

16 european countries +israel have made it illegal to deny the holocaust
punishment for simply denying something is that not denying people freedom of speech?
17 people have been persecuted for simply denying that the holocaust ever happened.

what do you guys think about this draconian law?

Here is a link:
Laws against Holocaust denial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But I do not know why You ask the Question?

The link above is an obvious fake, and no such law has ever been passed by a European Country,
and thus noone has been punished by such laws.

yes go right on ahead use it while you have it.
today you don't say anything about this law tomorrow they will pass another law banning you from saying something else.
then what?
if denying the holocaust is wrong and against the law then why isn't making drawings of the prophet Muhammad with a turban as a bomb ect not against the law?

That way too harsh.

You have to openly announce this to get it serious trouble... like stating it infront of a larger group of people. (And that would be the intentional spreading of false and anti democratic information which I meant earlier)

Somebody who just talks such trash randomly will hardly be charged for anything.

.
I support Pakistan's blasphemy law. After all, it's your land, your rules.
ok well i guess your exempt lol

Has the West put millions of Muslims in camps and put them to death there? Name one incident were West has put one million Muslims in prison camps and killed them there.

Well it probably depends on your intention, how hard you tried to convey your message, your past criminal records etc etc but 15 months is unlikely... very unlikely if its your first time.
