But it does say something about the main purpose of the trip.

May be Bangladesh knows it will never win an olympic medal due to genetics therefore will never take the event seriously? Pray that cricket is in 2028 Olympics, and then you two shots at a medal..Men and women's T20..will be an 8 team event..so gotta qualify first

@Juggernaut_Flat_Plane_V8 Why does my government send 6 athletes for sightseeing when your country sends 126 highly trained athletes? You guys do your best, and I don't see the same from our side. Write an open letter to BD government and help us out.
Correction; you don’t send athletes, athletes have to qualify for the Olympics by completing a set instructions put out by the IOC for each sport, so if your a few guys qualified then it’s not our fault.

We have surpassed your GDP / capita already, there's gonna be a lot more surpassing in the coming days hopefully. :)

None of us in South Asia do better in Olympics.

I don't see any winning from Pakistan either.

Pakistan has at least one medal 29 years back...Bangladesh has won no medals for 50 years..Bangladesh holds the world record for being the most populous country without an Olympic medal..Pakistan is far ahead

Whatever you surpass you will continue to look up to us because - 1) Your physical height or 2) your deep insecurity.

If you are doing well, Good congrats! I'm sincerely happy for any S. Asian nation that does well. If you are truly doing good and feeling so insecure that you have to compare yourself to India because of your hubris, you get smaller than you actually are..

India didn't even win 1 gold with a population of 1.4 BILLION and you want to compete with China ?

China has given out 1.8 BILLION doses of Covid-19 vaccines to its citizens. India ? 400 million. India has a loooong way to go before it can ever compare itself to China in any way.

Much brouhaha is made about India's perforamce..at least India manages to win medals...But 160+ Million Bangladesh has failed to win a single medal in 50 years!!! Even Pakistan does better as Pakistan has won a medal merely 29 years back....Is it due to Bangladeshi genetics?

Bangladesh, with an approximate population of 170 million, is the most populous country in the world never to have won an Olympic medal

To those who'd feel better by putting Bangladesh and Bangladeshis down - I hope your wishes have been fulfilled. Now let's move on, nothing more to see here. What possible benefit can we gain by discussing this?

@The Eagle bhai can we please lock this pointless thread (no offense) before it turns into another mudfest ?

South Asia has never faired well in Olympics. The reason is lack of sports culture. Till recently parents would want their kids to just focus on studies and get a decent job. Sports was considered a diversion from the ultimate goal of landing a good job. It seems to be changing but would take decades. Other factors are poor nutrition, facilities, awareness etc.

Then comes role of sports governing bodies controlled by self serving politicians who just sit there and pass time and degrade it further. Even when sportsmen are made incharge of these bodies they also become politicians and get dirty.

Even in the sports that this region had a good grip have slipped out. Hockey and Squash are two examples that come to mind right away.

China too was in a similar state (not as bad though) but turned around its path by making sports a part of its culture. It was able to do that due to a different governance system that can’t be replicated in other countries that easily.

While trolling each other for bad genes and what not can continue in poor taste, the fact that this region has failed utterly on sports front is something that should make us all a little more humble. Ashamed would be a bit harsh but May also be apt here.

I understand this thread is in response to this one
India at the Olympic: why no one ever considers the genetic angle?

No point getting down to their level
